Why back those who want to destroy us, Najib asks ‘Umno 3.0’ leaders

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has slammed a reported move to oust Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, asking why there are leaders who would support PPBM, which wants to destroy their party.
There has been widespread speculation of plans to get rid of Zahid and replace him with a new leadership dubbed “Umno 3.0”. The plans also reportedly include removing Najib, Zahid’s predecessor, from the picture by August.
Earlier today, sources told FMT that Umno 3.0 would work with PPBM and PAS, with calls for Zahid to step down as president expected to get louder in the coming days.
In a Facebook post, Najib said that working with PPBM would be going directly against the wishes of the grassroots, with 143 of 190 divisions having already decided that Umno should break its ties with the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party.
He warned Umno 3.0 leaders that going against the voice of the grassroots would see them being punished badly in the party polls.
“Why do they want to support a party that stole tens of Umno’s parliamentary and state seats, including in Sabah, through ‘frogs’, oppressed Umno, froze Umno’s accounts and tried to get Umno deregistered?
“Why do they want to support a party that has clearly failed in managing the economy and Covid-19 situation? Why support a party that continues to give nonsense excuses as to why Parliament can’t reconvene?
“Has the ‘scheme of things’ aimed at splitting Umno already succeeded with many bribed with government positions?” he asked.
Najib also said he was puzzled as to why certain leaders wanted him “removed” as he was neither the party president nor a supreme council member.
“I might not even get to defend my position as Pekan division chief if the Perikatan Nasional government’s plan to make me a bankrupt succeeds.”

The term "Creative destruction" is the often necessary deconstruction of old dysfunctional organisations so that innovation and renewal can proceed. Sometimes , the alternative of incremental reforms are simply too little , too late.
