KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says the formation of the next government is up to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“It’s solely the discretion and the prerogative of the Agong, so I leave it entirely to his discretion,” he told reporters when met outside his residence in Segambut here today.
When asked if he had the numbers to support him becoming the next prime minister and form the government, he said that too was the prerogative of the Agong, adding: “We’re not supposed to play with numbers.”
Anwar said the Agong’s decision to meet with all the MPs has rendered the statutory declarations signed by Umno, PAS and several PKR lawmakers irrelevant as each lawmaker had to make a choice before the King.
He said as such, their choices made before the Agong might be different to their public statements.
He also said no deals had been struck with interim Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for him to take over, adding that he was “always patient and confident”.

Wangsa Maju MP Dr Tan Yee Kew had said PKR MPs signed a declaration for Anwar to be made the 8th prime minister, while Sin Chew Daily reported that DAP MPs have also been told to nominate Anwar for the top post.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declined to provide insight into the meeting of his party’s lawmakers with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah but said he was “confident” about the outcome.
When pressed for any comment about the current political uncertainty, he said more information would be revealed via official channels.
He then said the bipartisan statutory declarations (SD) supporting Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to remain as the prime minister were no longer valid.
His remark dovetails with that of others who said the matter now rested in the hands of the Agong.

Wakakaka, so smiled and stated the incoming 8th PM of Malaysia - at long last. Alhamdulillah.
The Agong will decide who he will offer 1st right to form the next government based on forms filled in and signed in person by MPs in his presence.
ReplyDeleteIt remains to be seen how the numbers actually pan out.
Westminster process would indicate this should be the person with the highest number of proposals, even if it there is no simple majority. But the monarch is not bound by the convention.
After that the new PM still needs to get a vote of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat. This will be very tricky for PH. The "others" may not agree on what government they want to form, but they are united in rejecting Anwar.

But can I advise you something? Don't play with fireworks anymore OK? You both just burned the house down.
Without BN (42) and PAS (18) - who declared that they are not supportive of TDM Unity Government, it is obvious that Anwar will win the 8th PM ballot, unless of course TDM advises His Majesty YDPA to dissolve the Parliament, which is not likely.
