KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — Bentong MP Wong Tack has slammed Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof for saying that Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto does not include closing down Lynas Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s plant.
Wong said Redzuan’s dismissal of calls to close the rare earth processing plant in Gebeng, Pahang reflects “moral bankruptcy and complete disrespect for the rule of law”.
“For almost a decade, many current PH elected representatives have gone to the streets with the people to stop Lynas,” Wong said in a statement.
“The commitment to stop Lynas has not only been made in public speeches and media statements, but also via the signing of Stop Lynas petitions conducted by the ‘rakyat’.
“The failure to fulfil our commitment to close down Lynas has already created serious trust deficit towards the PH government. But spinning the issue by saying it is not a promise in the PH manifesto is rubbing salt into sore wound,” he added.
The DAP insisted that Pledge 39 of PH’s 14th general election manifesto clearly promised to implementing strict rules to ensure Malaysia does not become a dumping ground for toxic waste from foreign firms.
“The previous government has committed many wrongdoings with regards to Lynas. We were given the mandate to right the wrongs. Let’s not betray the people,” Wong said.
Yesterday, Redzuan was reported telling PH MPs to “respect” the government’s decision to continue with the project, as closing down the plant was not part of the pact’s election manifesto.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad Malaysia must tread carefully in deciding whether or not to allow Australian miner Lynas Corp to continue its rare earths refinery in Pahang as the wrong decision could have a devastating effect on investments into the country.
This came after Lynas Malaysia’s operating licence was renewed for six months subject to several conditions from the Atomic Energy Licensing Board in August.
The rare earth mining company has been slapped with four conditions as a prerequisite for its business here, including an order to build a “cracking and leaching” facility overseas, to transfer said process from its current base in Gebeng, Kuantan, out of Malaysia.
Last week, the Pahang state government confirmed that Lynas Malaysia had applied for a site to construct a permanent depository facility in the state.
As if kerbau-ing about non-existent MALAYSIAN flying car and borrowing the backside skin of a China-product to cover his face, Kipas Menteri wants to continue kerbau-ing, okay, just to bodek his Master, who we know is more interested in "investment" than the rakyat's health.
Some 30 years ago (1979), then-DPM Mahathir allowed Japan's Mitsubishi Chemicals to open a rare-earths refinery in the Malaysian village of Bukit Merah and Papan, whose residents were mainly Chinese Malaysians.
The facility (Asian Rare Earth - A.R.E) was warmly embraced by Mahathir's old government (and cronies) as an advanced foreign investment that would help create jobs in Perak. But of course the old cunning musang did not have that plant situated in his own constituency of Kubang Pasu despite his public confidence it was safe.
We couldn't do much about the Mahathir government's approval of Asia Rare Earth (A.R.E), but shouldn't their (Bukit Merah and Papan's) ill fate serve as a warning to Malaysia to stop the Lynas rare-earths plant in Pahang from continuing?

In 1985, the residents of Bukit Merah obtained an injunction to stop A.R.E from operating until it met safety standards. But it wasn't until 1992 when A.R.E closed down the factory operations as a result of increasing public pressure that threatened to launch a global boycott on Mitsubishi products. Yes, it was Mitsubishi which closed the mine, not Mahathir.
And the PRIBUMI party minister, Redzuan, yes, he might appear stupid, insensitive and callous to support Lynas, no doubt due to his high sense of bodek-ness, but he certainly knows the attitude of Mahathir who, as we have known him for years before, cared sh*t for workers, labourers and the proletariat.
The consequences of Lynas will besmirch his name long after his eventual death, just as the consequences of A.R.E have - though few remember Mahathir's cruel decision and attitude towards Bukit Merah's and Papan's cancer-afflicted residents.
Yet another brave DAP MP whacking Bersatu. Who says DAP is Toonsie's lapdog?
ReplyDeleteAfter the Tanjung Piai disaster when voters swung from Bersatu (not DAP) to MCA, Toonsie's hold on power is as tenuous as Carrie Lam's in HK after the pro-democracy movement overwhelmingly won the local elections. Rule Brittania...we'll go down fighting to the end...ha ha ha...!!
Good job Wong Tack. Don't waver over Lynas. Stay true to the cause and your supporters will continue to back you. If you quit then you become a barking dog by the roadside and Flying Minister would have won.
Meanwhile the in-fighting in PKR weakens that party as well. Which means DAP's rock-solid stability becomes increasingly vital for Harapan's survival. All the opposition attacks seem to be against LKS, Guanee and DAP. they all know DAP is the backbone of the government. Break DAP and you break Harapan.
Bersatu's days are surely limited, especially when Toonsie steps down.
Even AA's position has considerably weakened, his management of the bumi-linked GLCs is poor. Just pass all the bad assets to Guanee to kowtim. Keep all the good assets. Tabung Haji is just one example.
wakakaka, an ardent of the Lims
DeleteWithin DAP there is already a split, between Lims plus inner group (Mahathir's balls carriers) versus the grassroots like Wong Tack, Ronnie Liu, Dr Boo (outspoken anti Mahathir)
Wakakakaka… an ardent of the demoncratic west!
DeleteAin't that's what u people want disagreements on topics within the same party?
Democracy mah!
Or in demoncracy, one way authoritarianism is the true principle veiled by the cries of the blurred followers?
u dun know whats democracy. u shd continue talking zombie, thats a topic u r born with.
Deleteeducate u a bit, what this liar did is lying, not that diff with ccp, this liar hv the habit to interpret a manifesto, a basic law n a constitution according to their own fancy, thats a common problem with authoritarian regime n dictatorial leader, when supported by zombie like u.
Educatinh WHO?
DeleteSo u know democracy as shown by the HK 废青 - u must not object to what I said/did, otherwise my group (when been exposed or isolated singularly, the f*ckhead chicken out!) would wallop u kau2. Right?
Ain't those 废青 interpret a basic law n a constitution according to their own fancy?
Indeed, thats a common problem with authoritarian regime n dictatorial leader, when supported by zombie like u in the name of demoncratic administration!
I called that D.E.M.O.N.C.R.A.C.Y. Mfer, don't u miss that N!
Celaka HY
Deletediam la jibai x2.
DeleteLet's face it. Whoever wants to be PM needs the support of DAP's 42 MPs. They are Kingmaker. Not if but when PKR splits DAP will have the most seats in parliament. Sikit sikit lama lama dapat sekurang kurangnya DPM......ha ha ha...KT's nightmare...!!!
ReplyDeleteThe mountain of Lynas waste at Gebeng, regardless how dangerous or not, already existed on May 8 , 2018 before the General Election. It is a fait accompli, created by Najib.
ReplyDeleteMay Najib be forever cursed, as well as those working hard to sanitise his legacy.
It is Fake News to call Lynas a Mahathir or Pakatan Harapan legacy.
the present PM is Mahathir - he should have STOPPED ops of Lynas - curse Najib if you wish but you can't just keep blaming the previous government as an excuse for Mahathir to keep Lynas in operations
DeleteBut KT keeps digging up the mis-deeds of the government of the 80s and 90s. So why can't we dig up the mis-deeds of the government over the more recent past? Badawi and Jibby should have arrested and charged Toonsie in court for all his past mis-deeds. But they didn't. In GE14 the rakyat forgave Toonsie and re-elected him as PM. Whose fault is it? Jibbys of course. He didn't put Toonsie in jail. Too late now. Toonsie will put Jibby in jail instead.
Deletedigging up the mis-deeds of the PRESENT government in particular the PM - as he is NOW the PM, his misdeeds throughout his career must be re-looked at, wakakaka
DeleteFake News from Ktemoc again.
DeleteIf you look back at his blog , before May 9 2018, Ktemoc's blog was fully occupied with attacking Pakatan Harapan , which was not the government, while sanitising the then PM Najib.
wakakaka, Monsterball has one duty, namely, to attack me. When I was pro DAP (before I became disgusted with Lim KS), he attacked me; now that I am anti Lim KS (and son) he also attacks me, wakakaka again
DeleteFlying Car was not in manifesto either. Kill It.
