Turkish dogs vs Malaysian dogs

Koh Tat Meng, 47, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court in PJ under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with jail up to two years, or a RM10,000 fine, or both.

His crime?

He had allegedly obstructed Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) officers from discharging their duty.

And that public service duty he had allegedly obstructed?

One MPSJ officer in rounding up a stray dog HURLED the animal into their van, where it remained motionless (either knocked out unconscious or knocked out dead).

Koh pleaded with the officers to stop manhandling a stray dog in that manner. Koh tried to tell the officers, all of whom are Muslims, that Islam does not condone violence towards animals, but instead he was pinned by the officers against a vehicle and angrily told to STFU and not to speak any further on the religion.

Those officers must have reported him to the police who subsequently picked up Koh and detained him, until he was bailed by family members.

The unpleasant encounter was captured on video and went viral on 08 October. That brought out Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development exco Ng Sze Han (DAP) who apologised over the officers’ conduct, but whether to Koh or to the public, I am not sure.

Anyway, Koh also reported matter to the police and according to his lawyer (N Rajesh) the police have yet to act on the alleged abuse of the MPSJ dog catchers as captured in a video shared on social media. Polis buat ta'tahu? Wakakaka.

MM Online reported:

N Rajest said: “The police are supposed to take action when a report is lodged, but they never called him in to provide a statement, yet alone investigate,” he told reporters at the Petaling Jaya court complex, where his client was released on bail after pleading not guilty to obstructing public officials from discharging their duties.

Rajesh added that Koh also contacted the police several times, offering to come in and provide a statement for his police report, but was turned down.

“The MPSJ president should also resign immediately, as nothing was done to the council officials who manhandled the dog as well as my client.

“The poor creature was thrown into a van after being caught, and we do not know if it is even still alive. And my client was shoved and pinned against a vehicle by one of the officers and yelled at,” he said.

The lawyer also questioned if Attorney General (AG) Tan Sri Tommy Thomas is aware of the case.

“What is the AG doing, has he seen the video? Does he know my client was assaulted, and is he pushing for investigations?

“Is he also aware that MPSJ officials failed to carry out their duties properly, with those responsible for this brutal and heinous act walk free?” Rajesh asked.

He also urged members of the public to not remain silent and instead advocate for animal rights, as well as supporting Koh’s case.

It's a sad and outrageous case, but in Malaysia, entirely predictable, that of some Muslim officers acting cruelly against a hated creature like a dog and also arrogantly and abusively towards a non-Muslim on such matters.

Worse, for Muslim officers (people who believe they have been given unbridled "powers") to be informed by a non-Muslim on how Islam treats animals must be grating, at least to those lil' Napoleons.

dei siapa rajah lah?

Koh might have his heart in the right place but his head in the wrong one, but nonetheless I saluted his courage in attempting to talk sense into ill-mannered lil' Napoleons.

And as mentioned, it's entirely predictable the mata-mata won't act on such what they believe to be an un-Islamic non-issue.

In Turkey, as I posted in What Mahathir failed to learn from Turkey, Turkish (Sunni) Muslims treat stray dogs (officially, privately and individually) with kindness, compassion and indeed benevolence. They neutered as many as is possible (up to date) and allow these strays to live comfortably on mosques grounds, museum compounds, gardens and even streets. During winter they cover the strays with blankets and some shops even allow the dogs to sleep within.

It's obvious god loves Turkish dogs better than Malaysian ones. But I wonder who will Allah swt love more, Turk or Malay Muslims?

  1. Do not interfere with a government officer carrying out their duties.

I you think they are committing a wrong-doing, you can always lodge an official complaint and/or a police report.

Koh should NOT have interfered with the officer, and certainly not make any mention of the Prophet or bring in religion into the argument.

Stray dogs are a health and safety menace, including being the key contributor to the spread of deadly rabies. All these bleeding hearts who are interfering with or sabotaging efforts to control stray dogs are doing society a great disservice.

    1. more often than not people let their prejudice and emotions cloud their judgement, if we long to live in a civilised, cultured and modern society where we treat human beings and animals with compassion and decency, we have to work towards behaving like one, the last thing we want to do is obstruct people from doing their job properly irrespective of who they are but those with authority to carry out their job tends to forget who pays their salary, it's not City Hall or jakim, it's you and me, the rate payers, we are entitled to some kind of civility in exchange don't you agree?

  3. Do you really think there are enough hours in a day for AG TT to watch videos...? He has to be in court everyday to put Jibby behind bars.
