PETALING JAYA
Analysts have questioned a proposal for Gerakan to be replaced in Perikatan Nasional (PN) by PAS’s non-Muslim supporters wing (DHPP), saying this will not address the fundamental issue of the coalition’s inability to attract the support of non-Malays.

Azmi Hassan, a fellow at the National Council of Professors, said Gerakan had struggled to represent the non-Malays due to PAS’s

extreme
 and conservative political ideology.

Gerakan is being sidelined by PAS for failing to attract non-Malay voters, but this is not Gerakan’s fault – it’s because of PAS itself,
 he told FMT.

Even if DHPP replaces Gerakan and welcomes many associate or non-Malay members, PN will still struggle to earn the trust of non-Malay voters due to PAS’s longstanding rhetoric.

On Wednesday, a Penang PAS Youth leader said Gerakan was welcome to leave PN if it disagreed with the coalition’s direction.

Hafiz Alias, PAS’s deputy youth chief in the state, said Gerakan was not even influential, claiming that it had contributed hardly anything in Penang and noting its single seat in Malay-majority Kedah.

He said the youth wing of Penang PAS had proposed at the party’s muktamar that the position of state PN chairman, currently held by Gerakan president Dominic Lau, be reassigned.

Yesterday, meanwhile, former Negeri Sembilan MIC chief L Manickam announced that he had joined PAS through DHPP, citing the stability of the Islamic party and describing it as suitable for him.

The former two-term Jeram Padang assemblyman said the move would allow him to continue serving the community, particularly in Negeri Sembilan.

DHPP as a platform for candidates

Meanwhile, Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya said the issue of Gerakan’s performance would be mitigated if non-Malay leaders joined PN through DHPP to position themselves as PAS supporters.

“Using a party like Gerakan is seen as unpopular and becomes a liability that fails to attract votes.

However, DHPP can attract Malay-Muslim supporters without the baggage of previous party liabilities, especially as it enjoys strong backing from PAS loyalists,
 he said.

He added that DHPP could serve as an effective platform for these leaders to promote themselves as future election candidates.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Only 2.11 per cent of non-profit organisations here have released financial reports in the last five years, according to an analysis by Wiki Impact.

The latest report, which expanded its scope from 1,567 last year to 1,710 foundations, showed a mixed picture of progress in some areas and ongoing challenges in others.

“Among the 1,567 foundations re-evaluated, 115 showed a rating change: 83 improved their ratings, while 29 saw a decline.

“The second edition also revealed that among the 1,710 foundations in Malaysia, only 42 achieved an A-rating (scoring more than 75 per cent), with 12 foundations earning a perfect 100 per cent rating,” it said.

The standout organisations include Arba International WAQF (L) Foundation, Pintar Foundation, TFM Foundation, WWF (Malaysia), Yayasan Amal Maaedicare, Yayasan Bank Rakyat, Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (Selangor Darul Ehsan), Yayasan Generasi Gemilang, Yayasan Johor Corporation, Yayasan Khazanah, Yayasan Selangor, and Yayasan Sime Darby.

Their performance exemplified the positive impact that transparency can have in fostering trust and encouraging community support, Wiki Malaysia said.

However, the report revealed that a staggering 65.03 per cent of foundations received a zero rating due to inadequate information, highlighting a critical need for improvement.

Key findings in the report:

  • Nearly half of these foundations are situated in the Klang Valley, with 65.61 per cent having fully functioning websites and 39.30 per cent maintaining a social media presence.
  • Only 27.13 per cent posted on social media within the last three months.
  • Only 2.11 per cent released financial reports within the past five years, and 3.27 cent published impact reports in the same timeframe.
  • Foundations focused on educational were the largest category, with 252 foundations. In contrast, those supporting animal causes had the fewest, with only three.

Wiki Impact co-founder Terence Ooi said that the report provides clarity for donors to make informed decisions about the foundations they support or consider supporting.

“By providing open and honest communication about their operations, financials, and impact, nonprofits can assure their donors, beneficiaries, and the public that they are accountable and committed to achieving their mission,” he said.

“Under existing laws, foundations are not required to disclose their annual, financial, and impact reports, nor their board of directors, financial statements, or amounts disbursed. In contrast, this report seeks to recognise foundations that over-communicate and develop a shared public narrative. By doing so, we hope foundations will be more inclined to communicate the good work they do,” he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will upgrade all classes of motorcycle licences to the highest B category beginning October 1, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke today.

He said the department was finalising the upgrade programme, including coordinating with driving schools to phase out classes for the lower categories.

The minister said the public may begin applying for the scheme once it is open in October, adding that it was set to go on indefinitely.

Currently there are three categories of motorcycle licences:
B2: Engines no larger than 250cc
B1: Between 251c and 500cc

End of ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’?: Khairy says Sports Toto was major donor to NSC when he was minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Gaming operator Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s donations were a portion of the National Sports Council’s (NSC) allocations when Khairy Jamaluddin was the youth and sports minister.

In the latest episode of his Keluar Sekejap podcast with fellow ex-Umno member Shahril Hamdan, Khairy disclosed this while discussing the controversy behind an alcohol firm’s sponsorship to a vernacular school’s fundraising event.

“Most don’t know this but a part of the allocations for the NSC, when I was the minister, came from Sports Toto; this was also declared in Sports Toto’s financial statements,” he said.

“But there was no cheque ceremony and I never received a cheque from Sports Toto as it is a gambling firm.”

However, Khairy said it was a fact the government took the funds to promote health and sports, including for students.

The former Umno Youth chief said this was an important disclosure to make in the ongoing debate over accepting contributions from companies that operate in industries considered social vices.

The two also pointed out that corporate taxes of such firms would technically constitute as being derived from vices.

Earlier, Khairy said the guidelines for fundraising in school have existed unchanged since previous Barisan Nasional administrations, but conceded that there was some confusion over the prohibition.

While it said that there should not be involvement from companies dealing with alcohol, tobacco, and other activities deemed harmful to students, Khairy said the guidelines did not expressly say if the restriction included funds or just overt involvement.

Khairy acknowledged arguments that partially-funded vernacular schools had to resort to such sources of assistance, but said that as a former health minister, he agreed with keeping tobacco and alcohol firms away from students entirely.

“Still, the question is whether the government should clarify this ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ approach to funding.”

The controversy stemmed from the attendance of Parti Amanah Negara’s Sepang MP Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu at a recent fundraising event where she appeared onstage with others holding a mock cheque that showed the Tiger Beer logo, among others.

The beer brand clarified last month that it did not give any money to vernacular schools in Malaysia, and that its support is limited to providing local artists for charity concerts to help raise funds from the public.

The Education Ministry also said last month that it would maintain the existing guidelines for school fundraising, which included discretion for vernacular schools be allowed to continue receiving donations through their school administration boards and foundations.

PARIS, Aug 2 — China's Pan Zhanle said he had been given the cold shoulder by some of the other swimmers at the Paris Olympics, in comments made after he won the men's 100 metres freestyle on Wednesday.

Pan smashed his own 100m freestyle world record, shaving 0.40 seconds off the previous mark he set at the World Championships in Doha in February, to humble a slew of champion rivals in Paris.

He finished a massive 1.08 seconds ahead of Australia's Kyle Chalmers, who had to settle for silver.

"When I finished the 4x100m freestyle relay the other day, I said 'hi' to Chalmers, but he totally ignored me," Pan said in a TV interview shortly after Wednesday's race. "Also (Jack) Alexy from the U.S.

"When we were training, our coach was standing by the pool side and he turned in such a way that the water splashed right onto the coach. I felt he looked down on us a little."

Relations between China's swimming contingent and some other nations have been frosty in Paris, but Chalmers, the 100 metres freestyle champion at Rio 2016, said he had no issue with Pan.

"I find it a bit weird," Chalmers said with regard to Pan's comment.

"I gave him a fist pump before the relays ... and then my focus went to my teammates and my own racing. We had a laugh together at warm down last night - but no issues from my end."

Alexy, who came seventh, has not responded to Pan's remarks.

The Chinese swim team has been under intense scrutiny since revelations in April that 23 of the country's swimmers tested positive for a banned heart medication in 2021 but were allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

The World Anti-Doping Agency accepted the findings of a Chinese investigation that the results were due to contamination from a hotel kitchen, and an independent review backed WADA's handling of the case.

A World Aquatics audit concluded there was no mismanagement or cover-up by the governing body and Pan's name was not among the Chinese swimmers listed in the reports by the New York Times and German broadcaster ARD.

China's anti-doping agency (CHINADA) has since accused the New York Times of politicising doping issues and said the publication was trying to "affect the psychology" of Chinese athletes at the Olympics.

The Times said it was confident in the accuracy of its reporting.

"Today I finally beat them all," Pan continued, after earning China's first swimming gold in Paris.

"In such a challenging pool, I broke the world record - this is a tremendous performance and a great start for team China."

In a separate TV interview on Wednesday, Pan described how frequently the Chinese swimmers are drug tested in Paris.

"It could be once every two to three days but normally it happens daily and the person is picked from more than 10 of us so adding up everyone's tests it would be about 200 in 10 days," he said, dismissing some Chinese media reports that their swimmers are tested more frequently than those of other countries.

"The tests didn't really affect us. We normally just have one test a day. Sometimes it's 6am and normally it happens at 1pm or 6-7pm, all within normal hours, no impact at all." — Reuters

AYATOLLAHS GIVE 72 HRS NOTICE OF ATTACK ON ISRAEL

Dont know how true is this "notice". Regardless.

Folks I have been following the Middle East since 1973. At that time I was 13 years old. These are among the dumbest people on the surface of this earth. Their saga just never seems to end.

1 August 2024

US Pentagon official:

Iran and its allies will launch a full-scale attack on Israel within the next 72 hours.

Iran’s FM has notified Qatar and Saudi Arabia that a military operation against Israel is imminent, cautioning them not to allow their airspace to be used against Iran.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Pearly Tan and M Thinaah for becoming the first Malaysian women’s doubles badminton pair to reach the semi-finals of the Olympics.

In a Facebook post, Anwar also extended his best wishes to the world’s 12th-ranked pair for their upcoming matches at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“Alhamdulillah, congratulations to these two outstanding athletes for making history as Malaysia’s first women’s doubles team to advance to the Olympic semi-finals.

“Remain calm and focused, and may you achieve great success!” he said.

In the quarter-finals at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Pearly and Thinaah defeated South Korean pair Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong, who are ranked 10th in the world, in straight sets.

Pearly and Thinaah will face the world number one pair from China, Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan, in the semi-finals.

Malaysian women’s pairs have only reached the quarter-finals once at the Olympics, in Rio 2016, where Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei lost to eventual champions Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi. — Bernama

CIA is the largest Jew Terrorism Organization on the planet

Thanks 'MF':

The CIA is the largest Jew Terrorism Organization on the planet. The Milner Group and its Morgan-Rockefeller associates have always been very close to the intelligence services. Britain’s foreign intelligence agency, the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) a.k.a. MI6, was an interdepartmental service of the Foreign Office, the Admiralty and the War Office, all of which were run by the interlocking Cecil Bloc and Milner Group. MI6 was created in 1909 by a committee chaired by Milnerite War Secretary Richard Haldane. Its first chief was Mansfield Cumming who was appointed by FO Under-Secretary Sir Charles Hardinge, a protégé of Cecil Bloc founder Robert Gascoyne-Cecil (Lord Salisbury). In 1940, the Milner Group, now headed by Lionel Curtis, was again in charge of the Foreign Office which controlled MI6. While Lord Halifax was Foreign Secretary, his fellow Milner member, Lord Lothian, was British Ambassador to the US. As part of the Milner Group’s global expansion, MI6 set up an American station, called the British Security Co-ordination (BSC). This organization which was responsible for operations in the entire western hemisphere was headquartered in the New York Rockefeller Center and was run by William Stephenson. In 1941, Stephenson set up the Office of Coordinator of Information (COI), which coordinated different US intelligence services and, as adviser to President Roosevelt, had his collaborator William Donovan appointed as head. In 1942, COI became the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). After the war, in 1947, the OSS was reorganized as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) (Jeffrey, pp. 440-9). The CIA, therefore, was a Milner-CFR creation and part of MI6’s global network. Banker Allen Dulles (younger brother of CFR and UN co-founder John Foster Dulles) was its first director. Most CIA directors have been CFR members ever since (Smoot, pp. x, ff.). In 1943, David Rockefeller himself became a member of the US Joint Intelligence Collection Agency (JICA) in French North Africa, where he was in touch with Henri Chevalier, general manager of Rockefeller’s Standard Oil interests and set up his own intelligence network there (Rockefeller, pp. 112-3). Rockefeller’s personal involvement and the fact that by then German forces had been pushed out of North Africa suggests that such intelligence operations revolved around oil interests more than anything else. Btw, the Milner Group was set up in 1891 by Lord Rothschild, Cecil Rhodes, Lord Milner and associates. It was not until the OSS hired office support staff that the first non-jews were brought into the organization. At the time the CIA was created ONLY secretaries and drivers and janitors were non-jews. It is possible that the first non-jew CIA officer was only hired as late as 1945. As late as the Korean war, in 1953, that non-jews even reached 50% of annual new hires. A nick-name for the CIA in WA DC through the 1940s & 1950s was the 'synagogue'.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today denounced Facebook’s parent company Meta for removing his tribute to the late Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, calling the company’s actions disrespectful to the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

“Meta has once again acted disgracefully and has insulted the struggle of the Palestinian people by removing the video and condolence post criticising the assassination of the late Ismail Haniyeh,” he posted on Facebook this morning.

“It is unreasonable that a tribute honouring a fighter who strives to liberate his homeland from tyranny and suffering is deemed dangerous,” he added.

Similar messages were posted on all the prime minister’s social media platforms.

Anwar emphasised the need for social media platforms to recognise the significance of honouring those who fight for justice.

“Let this serve as a clear and unequivocal message to Meta: Cease this display of cowardice and stop acting as instruments of the oppressive Zionist Israeli regime!”

Anwar’s remarks highlight ongoing worldwide tensions regarding the portrayal of the Palestinian struggle on global platforms, urging greater sensitivity and support for those advocating for justice and freedom.

In a statement posted on his social media platforms last night, Anwar expressed his sorrow at Ismail’s death and concerns at how the latter’s murder would affect Palestinians, saying it was a move designed to derail peace talks amid a protracted crisis there.

Anwar met Ismail last May in Qatar during a three-day visit to the Middle Eastern nation, and described the latter as a “friend”.

PARIS, July 31 — China’s Pan Zhanle obliterated his own 100 metres freestyle world record at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday as he took an astonishing gold medal in the event and humbled a slew of champion rivals.

The 19-year-old sensation’s time of 46.40 seconds shaved an incredible 0.40 seconds off his previous mark set at the World Championships in Doha in February when he announced himself to the world with a stunning relay leadoff swim.

”I tried my best to get the best result. I was very surprised in the end that I broke the world record and it was a magical moment,” Pan told reporters through a translator.

Australia’s silver medallist Kyle Chalmers finished a yawning 1.08 seconds behind Pan, while David Popovici finished a further 0.01 second behind for the bronze.

There was no easing in for Pan who took off like a rocket and mowed down the opening 50 metres in an outrageous 22.28 seconds.

He crushed any hopes Chalmers and Popovici might have had of catching him as he stretched his lead and flew to the wall.

A doping storm has followed China’s swim team to Paris after revelations in April that 23 Chinese athletes had tested positive for a banned heart medication but were allowed to swim at the Tokyo Games. China said the athletes were victims of contamination from a hotel kitchen, and an independent review backed the World Anti-Doping Agency’s handling of the case.

China was then plunged back into the spotlight on Tuesday after the New York Times reported that two swimmers in 2022 had tested positive for a banned steroid but had provisional suspensions lifted when the results were also blamed on contaminated food.

Wenzhou native Pan rose above the acrimony, however, to earn his first Olympic gold medal some five months after winning the world title.

He said he had been tested more than 20 times over the past few months but trod a diplomatic path when asked whether it had affected him.

”The testing was essentially done under all the regulations, so I don’t feel there was any difference or influence,” he said.

Chalmers, the gold medallist at Rio 2016, took his second silver in the event and eighth medal at Olympics, having finished runnerup behind Caeleb Dressel at the Tokyo Games.

Chalmers overcame a back injury before Olympic trials and a change of coach after his former one Peter Bishop was stood down in March after an undisclosed investigation.

”I’ve been swimming the same race plan for the last eight years, and it’s worked pretty well for me. It almost worked well for me. I guess tonight to get a silver medal still was amazing,” said Chalmers.

Popovici, who previously held the world record before Pan took it at Doha, added the bronze to his 200m freestyle gold medal at Paris. — Reuters
