Karma!!! – Traitor Muhyiddin Who Betrayed Friends Now Cries Over Plot By Trusted Hamzah To Topple Him
September 9th, 2025 by financetwitter
All hell broke loose after 122 out of 191 divisions of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) signed “Statutory Declarations (SD)” demanding its president – Muhyiddin Yassin – to resign and hand over the party leadership to his deputy, Hamzah Zainudin. For the first time since the party was founded in 2016, chaos exploded at its general assembly on Saturday (September 6).
The president of Bersatu or Malaysian United Indigenous Party was left humiliated after a group of delegates shouted and called for him to step down while he was delivering his keynote address. It was no small matter when Muhyiddin (whose real name is Mahiaddin), a former prime minister, texted in the party’s Supreme Council WhatsApp group that the incident was “very embarrassing”.
The rebellion broke out after Muhyiddin revealed during his speech that some quarters had been collecting signatures to oust him. He initially tried to tell party members to uphold the party constitution and refrain from attempts to remove leaders through signatures. Then he warned that any move to topple him by collecting signatures was unlawful and went against the party’s constitution.

“I hear some are collecting signatures to topple the president. This action contradicts the party constitution. If the president can be toppled in this way, then the vice-presidents, division chiefs, Armada and Srikandi leaders, even the supreme council can all be removed the same way,” – said Muhyiddin as the panicked president warned members not to play the role of agitators.
It was only after the Bersatu president tried to calm the members, whilst at the same time tried to lecture members about party constitution and demanded absolute obedience that members and delegates were provoked. Muhyiddin should be the last person qualified to talk about loyalty as he was the same traitor who had betrayed friends, even collected SDs to overthrow a democratically elected government.
He conveniently forgot his infamous “Sheraton Move”, where he plotted with partner-in-crime Hamzah Zainudin and traitor Azmin Ali (then-PKR deputy president) in 2020. He led Bersatu to withdraw support for the Pakatan Harapan government, leading to the collapse of the 22-month Mahathir administration in March 2020. Muhyiddin then became Malaysia’s first backdoor prime minister.

However, power-crazy Muhyiddin had only survived for 17 months before his own backdoor regime collapsed. One of his governing partners in the hastily glued Perikatan Nasional coalition – United Malays National Organization (UMNO) – betrayed him by withdrawing support, the same way he had betrayed partner Pakatan Harapan earlier, forcing Muhyiddin to resign in humiliation in August 2021.
Therefore, it’s both hilarious and hypocrisy for Muhyiddin to forbid his own party members from collecting Statutory Declarations to topple him, when he had done precisely the same in collecting Statutory Declarations to overthrow his own Pakatan Harapan government not many moons ago. So, he can shamelessly collect signatures to snatch power, but others cannot do the same to him?
Worse, the power-hungry man had again tried to grab power through the same old trick of collecting signatures from Members of Parliament post-15th General Election in 2022 that produced a hung parliament, despite the enactment of the anti–hopping law. He arrogantly disregarded the law and breached the Federal Constitution and went on a shopping spree to buy elected lawmakers.

Yes, after the November 2022 national polls, Muhyiddin-led Perikatan Nasional had a chance to return to power. However, his arrogance – flatly rejecting a “Unity Government” proposed by then-King Sultan Abdullah – saw the opportunity crushed as he insisted on becoming the prime minister, and not the deputy to rival Pakatan Harapan leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Islamist party PAS president Hadi Awang was equally dumb, arrogant and overconfident that Perikatan Nasional could become the government – misled and hoodwinked by Muhyiddin’s claim that they had 115 SDs (statutory declarations) of support. Both Muhyiddin and Hadi were clueless that with the implementation of the anti-hopping law, those SDs were not worth the paper it’s written on.
Former PM Muhyiddin was furiously mad after the King rejected his dubious 115 SDs, but it was too late to cry over spilt milk. Barisan Nasional, despite suffering its worst defeat in history, has suddenly become the kingmaker. Without its 30 MPs, neither Pakatan Harapan (82 MPs) nor Perikatan Nasional (74 MPs) could form a government. It was game over after Barisan chose Pakatan over Perikatan.

Muhyiddin lied through his teeth with his argument that collecting signatures to topple him was against the party constitution. In truth, amendment of Clause 10 of the party’s Constitution, which was rushed in 2024 to close a “loophole” after six Bersatu MPs defected to Anwar’s camp, only provides a provision to automatically terminate the party membership of any Member of Parliament (MP) who switches their political allegiance.
Nowhere in the Bersatu constitution mentions members or division chiefs cannot collect Statutory Declarations to fire their president due to loss of confidence or whatever reasons. Besides, not all the 191 division chiefs of Bersatu are MPs. They were not trying to jump ships, but merely wanted to replace Muhyiddin Yassin with Hamzah Zainudin as their new president.
Even though Mr Muhyiddin appears to have survived the onslaught over the weekend, the fact that he, who rarely responds in the group chat, had to express his frustration and displeasure speaks volumes about the serious split in the Malaysian United Indigenous Party. It’s not an exaggeration to suggest that the bad blood between Muhyiddin and his deputy, Hamzah, is getting from bad to worse.

Monkey see, monkey do – the Hamzah faction was merely learning the backstabbing skills from Muhyiddin, who stabbed his own Pakatan Harapan allies in the back less than 5 years ago. And Hamzah himself was just learning from his mentor how to snatch power. The only difference is the emergence of a poison-penletter ahead of the event, which is part of the culture of Malay politics.
Obviously, some 120 out of 191 divisions believe Muhyiddin – clueless, incompetent, and directionless – is incapable of leading Bersatu to a victory in the next 16th General Election. Incredibly hungry for power and money, party members who were largely parasites and corrupted are fast losing patience, and Hamzah did not need to try very hard to instigate them to rebel against Muhyiddin.
It was by design, rather than coincidence, that Hamzah declared himself as the “number one supporter” of his president Muhyiddin Yassin only after the humiliation drama had tarnished Muhyiddin leadership. It’s not rocket science that without Hamzah’s blessing, it’s hard to believe 120 divisions would have the balls to openly and publicly mock, belittle and insult Muhyiddin.

For Hamzah to declare himself as not a traitor, but a “younger brother and a servant” to Muhyiddin was already a great joke enough to make Donald Trump’s toes laugh. A traitor who jumped ship from UMNO after his party lost power in the May 2018 General Election, before helping Muhyiddin to betray Pakatan Harapan in 2020, Hamzah is in the same treachery and betrayal league as Muhyiddin.
What Hamzah is doing is not something that is cutting-edge technology. Make no mistake – the commotion orchestrated to humiliate Muhyiddin was just the beginning – to test the waters about the party president’s reaction. More importantly, Hamzah wanted to gauge the reaction from the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS – Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) – the biggest party in the Perikatan Nasional.
Hamzah made the move after Muhyiddin broke a promise to hand over the presidency to him, the same way former premier Mahathir made a similar promise to Anwar but refused to fulfil it. But the Bersatu No. 2 knew the party president cannot be toppled with just a childish commotion. It would take more than a humiliation to pressure the thick-skinned Mahiaddin Yassin to quit.

Having forced Muhyiddin’s hand, the president’s right-hand man, Azmin Ali, was instructed to move the chess piece with Bersatu’s instant endorsement of Muhyiddin Yassin as the candidate for the 11th Prime Minister – hoping to neutralize any plan to torpedo Muhyiddin’s ambition.. But it was a bait, and Muhyiddin foolishly swallowed the hook, line and sinker planted by Hamzah.
PAS and Perikatan Nasional election director Sanusi Nor warned that Bersatu cannot make hasty decisions on its own without the consensus of other coalition partners. Joining the bandwagon in rejecting Muhyiddin’s candidacy was Annuar Musa, the deputy director-general of PAS central election department. It’s public knowledge that PAS wanted its own leaders as the prime ministerial candidate.
Sanusi’s opposition represents PAS’ stance, hence putting Muhyiddin and Hadi leaderships at loggerheads as both Malay-centric partiesfight a silent battle for the Iron Throne. Not only Hamzah cleverly used PAS to deliver a slap in the face of Muhyiddin, but also to create deeper friction and distrust in the Muhyiddin leadership. Without PAS grassroots and machinery, Bersatu will be in trouble.

If PAS refuses to recognize Muhyiddin’s legitimacy as Perikatan Nasional prime ministerial candidate, Bersatu will be reduced to a pariah party without a clear direction or reason to exist. Hamzah hopes this will pressure Muhyiddin to eventually retire and pass the baton to him. The strategy is to gradually make Muhyiddin irrelevant, even a stumbling block in the partnership with PAS.
Behind the scenes, many in PAS and Bersatu still blame Muhyiddin for his reckless and careless negotiation with the Palace that drove the entire Perikatan Nasional into the opposition camp. And the majority do not want him to lead them again into another disaster in the next 16th national polls. Muhyiddin’s “Malay First” was already problematic in attracting the critical Chinese voters.
