KLIA police chief Azman Shari’at said security personnel intervened after the couple, who appeared disoriented, made other passengers uncomfortable with their erratic behaviour.
In a statement, he said the couple was taken to the police station for questioning, but refused to cooperate and continued to act aggressively.
He said police sought assistance from the health ministry after suspecting the couple might be mentally impaired. Sedatives were given to calm them down after medical checks.
“When it became apparent that they might be mentally unwell, they were sent to Serdang Hospital for a check-up,” he said.
Azman clarified that no arrests were made as the police only conducted preliminary inquiries.
He also said the couple was confirmed to not be under the influence of drugs. The cause of their erratic behaviour remains under investigation.
