Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (left) said the government is now paying the price for former rural development minister Annuar Musa’s ‘mistake’.

Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has criticised former minister Annuar Musa for trying to position himself as a
hero
after the latter waded into the issue of land grants for South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) settlers.

Questioning his motive in raising the issue now, during the run-up to the Nenggiri by-election, Zahid said these were matters that should have been resolved

during Annuar’s time
.

Annuar was the rural development minister from 1993 to 1999.

“We are now paying the price for his mistake.

However, we will work to resolve it promptly,
he told reporters after a meet-and-greet programme with Jeram Tekoh residents here.

Last week, FMT reported that Nenggiri residents, including Kesedar settlers, hoped that the delays in the issuance of land grants – some of which have been pending since 1983 – would be resolved soon.

Yesterday, former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar, who is now with PAS, suggested that Kesedar-managed lands should be directly granted by the state government to the settlers without going through the federal government agency, which he accused of failing to resolve decades-long land ownership issues.

Kesedar is an agency under the rural and regional development ministry, in which Zahid is the minister.
