Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has lodged a police report against former premier Muhyiddin Yassin over his claims that he had the support of enough MPs to form a government after the 15th general election but was thwarted.

This comes after a TikTok video went viral showing Muhyiddin seemingly questioning the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to appoint PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister after GE15.

In a copy of the report sighted by Malaysiakini, Rayer expressed the belief that Muhyiddin’s speech may contain elements of contempt and insult towards the royal institution.

“On Aug 16, I was at my office at Jalan Zainal Abidin in Penang, I was watching a TikTok video where Muhyiddin, the former PM and also Bersatu president, made a speech as part of the Nenggiri by-election.

“I would like to point out that the statements made by Muhyiddin in the eyes of Malaysian criminal law are an element of contempt and insult to the royal institution, and can rouse the public’s anger against the royal institution,” said Rayer in the report.

He also claimed in the report filed at the Timur Laut district police headquarters that the words expressed by Muhyiddin were an insult to Pahang ruler, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who was serving as king during GE15.

Recorded history

In the viral video, between minutes 49 and 52, Muhyiddin, when campaigning for the Nenggiri by-election, was seen claiming that he had the support of 115 MPs to form the government following the national polls in 2022.

“According to the Federal Constitution, I had more than enough numbers to become the prime minister.

“It’s not that I want to bring up the past but it is recorded history.

“But I don’t know how… the Agong back then didn’t invite me to the palace to get sworn in. Who was the previous Agong? It’s (from) Pahang lah,” Muhyiddin was reported as saying, referring to Sultan Abdullah.

It is worth noting that while Sultan Abdullah had offered Muhyiddin an opportunity to form a coalition government with Anwar-led Pakatan Harapan, the Pagoh MP rejected it outright.

“In his speech, Muhyiddin claimed that even though he had enough support to establish a government after the 15th general election, Sultan Abdullah declined to meet with Muhyiddin to appoint or give him a mandate to become prime minister and establish a government after GE15.

“I made a police report against Muhyiddin because I want the police to investigate the speech for sedition and also that he tried to stir up the anger of the people and issued statements that could disturb public order,” added Rayer in his police report.

In a brief video explaining his report, Rayer took a jibe at Muhyiddin’s coalition saying that now Perikatan Nasional has become Pontianak Nasional (National Ghost).
