The eerie silence from PAS in the Siti Mastura blunder

AMANAH Youth exco Azhar Rahman questioned the PAS leadership over their perceived silence in the case of PAS Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Mohamad who is facing massive criticism and a potential lawsuit.

“DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has initiated legal action against her. However, there is still no effort (from PAS) to defend Siti Mastura or at least provide legal services to her,” Azhar said in a statement today.

He added that the PAS leadership should either state support for Siti Mastura, especially when she was being pushed by the DAP leadership or offer an apology on her behalf if they feel the allegations are unfounded.

Siti Mastura came under fire for alleging that various members of the DAP hierarchy, including Lim and his father Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang were somehow related to ex-Singapore head of state Lee Kuan Yew and communist bogeyman Chin Peng.

The 34-year-old has been challenged to provide evidence of her claims made during a PAS shindig in Kemaman, Terengganu or face the consequences. At the time of this writing, Lim has filed a lawsuit against the Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP.

Queried by the media, she remained silent and even defied calls for an explanation by DAP MPs in Parliament.

However, Azhar claimed that PAS could use any excuse to defend their MP.

Considering Siti Mastura’s position, she is more than just an ordinary party member responsible for such a mistake. As the deputy chief of PAS’ women’s wing the Muslimat, the party leadership should not allow their MP to appear foolish without defending or supporting her.

“Just use the excuse that his statement has been manipulated or taken out of context as the PAS leadership usually does so that the opponent’s attacks can be lessened. PAS leaders shouldn’t let Siti Mastura look stupid like that. What’s more, she is a strong young woman leader who always defends PAS leadership,” he added. – Nov 11, 2023
