Fahmi to take legal action over ‘defamatory’ poster on Coldplay concert

Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil says his statement has been taken out of context.

Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil said he would ask his lawyers to look into all parties involved in disseminating the poster.

PUTRAJAYA: Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil is set to take legal action against those who disseminated a poster of him allegedly expressing gratitude over the Coldplay concert in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Describing it as “malicious” and “defamatory”, he said he had been misquoted, and that the statement attributed to him on the poster, taken from a Berita Harian article, was reproduced “out of context”.

“My full response to the reporter is available on Berita Harian’s website. Therefore, I will ask my lawyers to look into all parties involved in circulating this graphic, and I will take legal action against them,” he told reporters after the PKR national congress in Putrajaya.

Earlier, the daily quoted Fahmi as saying that the smooth running of the British rock band’s concert should be made an example.

“Alhamdulillah, I see the success of this concert as a result of good cooperation between the organisers, artistes, and authorities.

“I understand that Coldplay expressed gratitude to the government twice, and the concert proceeded without any issues or controversies,” the report read.

Separately, Fahmi said PKR’s leadership would look into all concerns raised at this weekend’s congress, including those voiced by the Indian community on their fate in the party.

“God-willing, I believe the leadership will look into these matters and ensure they are resolved amicably,” he said.
