Netizens arguing that PN didn’t want to abolish the Sedition Act in 2020
THE sedition law was first introduced in 1948 by the British to prevent the spread of communism in Malaya. But in present-day Malaysia, it’s often wielded as a tool in political debates, disadvantaging opposition parties. The irony lies in the fact that Perikatan Nasional (PN) openly declared in 2020 that they wouldn’t repeal this law.
However, a recent statement from one of their politicians suggests a change in stance though it doesn’t negate the fact that they didn’t abolish the law when they held power.
Data shows a rising trend in seditious offences in Malaysia, particularly over the past two years, encompassing issues related to royal institutions, ethnicities, religions and rights safeguarded under the Federal Constitution.
Recently, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail refuted Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan’s claim that PN did not have time to abolish the law, calling it “double standards”.
Takiyuddin raised concerns about potential loopholes and asked if the government planned to abolish them. Many found this to be rather ironic, as when the PN was in government, they did not have any plans to do anything about it.
Macam biasa PNipu Nasional
Aku dah agak! Taki jawab tempohari sekadar nak lepaskan tengkuk je. Tapi netizen pandai cari fakta.
Itulah Islam ajaran PAS.

(As usual, National Deceivers. I already knew it! Taki only answered the other day just to divert attention. But netizens are good at finding facts, unlike PN leaders and their ilk.
(On July 27, 2020, the then home affairs minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin confirmed that the government (PN) would not repeal the Sedition Act.
(So, what Taki said he wanted to do but didn’t have the chance, that’s considered deception, right? Not surprising. Hadi indeed allows lies when under pressure. That’s the Islam taught by PAS.)
Others are firm that PN leaders are blatantly lying in parliament at this point.
(Actually, it’s easier to just lie. But when they’ve lied so much, they themselves have forgotten what’s true and what’s a lie. Fear doesn’t even arise in their hearts anymore. If you worry about making mistakes, it’s still okay. But if you no longer worry, then you better start worrying.)
Regardless, the political party is receiving a lot of backlash on Twitter. However, it appears that the support for them in the northern states is still quite strong. Be that as it may, the current government is still holding strong until the next general elections. – Nov 5, 2023
