Now a 'Tan Sri', DAP veteran says to just call him 'Kit'

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said that even with his newly awarded "Tan Sri" title, people who knew him should just address him as "Kit" as they would usually do.

Taking to Facebook after the investiture ceremony at Istana Negara this morning, Lim also thanked his supporters for their best wishes.

"Thanks, everyone for the congratulatory wishes. I still prefer everyone to just call me Kit,” he said in a brief Facebook post.

The investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s official birthday saw a total of 839 individuals conferred federal awards, honours and medals.

In a separate post, Lim's daughter, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, shared a photograph taken of them at the palace today.

"Your outstanding achievement and contributions to national politics have been proven with the title granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"This is the outcome of your hard work and dedication that knows no boundaries for the sake of our beloved nation," said Hui Ying.

Describing her father as her aspiration, Hui Ying said his influence extended beyond their family to many others who equally looked up to him.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Agong's conferment of the prestigious award was a tremendous recognition to the DAP and respect to Lim’s contribution to the country’s democratic system for over 57 years.

"Even though he has never been an administrative member in the federal government, his contributions and role as opposition leader for over 29 years are of utmost importance in nurturing our democracy," said the DAP secretary-general in his congratulatory message to Lim.

Lim was one of 26 recipients of the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota which carries the title "Tan Sri" - the second highest federal title after "Tun".

Other former and current politicians honoured today included the late PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul, Parti Cinta Malaysia president Anifah Aman, and former minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
