What happened to sexual harassment probe on ex-OCPD, asks alleged victim

PETALING JAYA: One of the alleged victims of sexual harassment involving a senior police officer who was serving in Sabah is demanding to know the progress of the 2018 investigation into the case.
The alleged victim told FMT that despite the incident happening five years ago, he is still in the dark about the internal investigation which the police said would be conducted by their integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS).
In August 2018, then inspector-general of police Fuzi Harun told the media that strict action would be taken against a district police chief in Sabah following allegations he had sexually harassed six police staff members and a People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) member.
The alleged victim said he was shocked to find out that in a recent Bukit Aman transfer exercise, the police officer had been promoted and was now heading a police department in a state.
“He was (previously) transferred to an administrative job (in another department), so the police could conduct an internal investigation, but what has happened to that probe?” he said.
He said the latest development coincided with a statement by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki that there was no follow-up on 500 misconduct reports it had filed against various agencies, including 195 cases involving the police.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail gave the assurance the police would respond to the reports of misconduct involving their officers.
In August 2018, Fuzi had said “there is some truth” to reports that a district police chief in Sabah had sexually harassed his staff members.
“We are taking action on that. I cannot say when but it will be immediate. We are looking into the matter seriously,” he told The Star at the time.
Recently appointed Sabah police chief Jauteh Dikun told FMT he would look into the matter.
