KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — Former PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang is hoping his old friend Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will forgive him for going against the party in GE15 and take him back into the fold.

Better known as Tian Chua, the former Batu MP was sacked from the party last week for running as an independent in last November’s general election against another PKR member P. Prabakaran in the city parliamentary seat, which the latter subsequently won.

Chua admitted he had no defence for violating the party’s disciplinary rules, news portal Free Malaysia Today reported.

“It’s up to the president whether he will forgive me or not.

“Anwar could use his power as president to forgive me.

“The issue is clemency, not punishment,” he was quoted as saying.

Chua lost his election deposit in GE15 as he won only 4,603 votes.

The PKR leadership has given Chua 14 days to appeal its decision.

Chua told the news portal he will hold off making a formal appeal as he has yet to receive an official letter on his membership status.

But it also reported PKR disciplinary committee chairman Datin Seri Tan Yee Kew confirming that a letter to Chua has been sent, after a delay to get party secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s signature.

Apart from Chua, PKR has also sacked four others on January 7 for contesting in GE15 as well as the 2021 Sarawak state election without the party’s consent.

The other four are Puah Chee Haur (Parit Buntar branch), Ahmad Tarmizi Ghazali (Gopeng), M. Mohganan (Taiping) and Nur Khairunisa Abdullah (Sadong Jaya).

Puah and Tarmizi represented Parti Warisan to contest the Keranji and Chenderiang state seats, both in Perak.

Mohganan contested the Taping parliamentary seat as an independent, while Nur Khairunisa ran in the Sadong Jaya state constituency during the Sarawak state election under Parti Sarawak Bersatu.

Anwar may be forgiving but "someone" may not

  1. Forgiveness is often appropriate for a long ago infraction , or if the person has genuinely repented or the offence was unintentional.

In this case , "You asked for it" , Tian Chua.
