PKR boots out Tian Chua officially

Former PKR vice-president, Tian Chua, is officially sacked from the party following his decision to contest for the Batu parliamentary seat as an independent candidate during the 15th general election.

PKR disciplinary board chairperson Tan Yee Kew told Malaysiakini that the decision was made during the party’s supreme council meeting yesterday night.

“Yes, yesterday the supreme council had a meeting and we decided to sack him officially,” she said when contacted today.

Tan added that a total of five members were sacked, including Tian Chua (above).

“All (were) sacked because of standing as independents or on tickets of other parties. Those who will be sacked for other disciplinary issues will be announced later,” she added.

According to Tan, the other four members axed were Puah Chee Haur from Parit Buntar division, Ahmad Tarmizi Mohd Ghazali from Gopeng division and M Mohganan from Taiping division.

Both Puah and Tarmizi had contested under the Warisan ticket in Keranji and Chenderiang, respectively - while Mohganan contested in Taping as an independent candidate.

Meanwhile, Nur Khairunisa Abdullah from Sadong Jaya the division was also sacked because she contested in Sadong Jaya during the 2021 Sarawak election.

Tian Chua held the Batu seat for two terms between 2008 and 2018.

After being disqualified as a candidate during the 2018 election, he endorsed P Prabakaran, then an independent candidate, who eventually won and joined PKR later.

During the PKR leadership election last year, Prabakaran beat Tian Chua for the Batu PKR division chief post and was nominated by the party to defend Batu in GE15.

Tian Chua announced his candidacy in Batu as an independent candidate but ended up losing his deposit.
