“Don’t take death threat on CJ Tengku Maimun lightly for dangers lurk everywhere”
DON’T brush aside death threats on personalities as something fictitious for they can be real.
In fact, the possibility of such threats becoming a reality should not be underestimated given “home-made bombs can now be produced by watching YouTube”, according to veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin.
Referring to the recent revelation by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat that she has been receiving death threats amid acts of intimidating the judiciary in cases involving political figures, he urged the relevant authorities not to treat such matter lightly.
“The comments made about the judiciary are also somewhat exaggerated, biased, non-objective and political,” the former Bersatu supreme council member penned in his latest Facebook post.

“Death threats against judges or anyone else for that matter is a wrongdoing that should be dealt with severely. At least, there must be effort to raise the level of protection for members of the judiciary and monitoring those who make such threats.”
Kadir further pointed out that among political figures who are and have been tried are ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak and one of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s two Deputy Prime Ministers in his coalition government, namely Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Also on trial, is Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor,” he further noted.
Not intending to suspect anybody, Kadir said history has also proven how personal matters involving dignitaries have exploded into murder cases involving members of the security forces.
“On Dec 16, the Shah Alam High Court ordered the Malaysian government and three others to pay RM5 mil in compensation to the family of former Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibu, for her death (by murder) in 2006,” he highlighted.
“Judge Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera in his decision has allowed the suit against two former members of the Special Action Unit (UTK) Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar as well as former political analyst Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda and the Malaysian government.”
However, this has not yet taken into account murder cases that can be said to happen every two or three days in all corners of the country.
“In 1997, when the late Lee Kuan Yew said, ‘Johor is notorious for shootings, muggings and car-jackings; the entire Malaysia was furious. He then apologised. Unfortunately, today the whole Malaysian is suffering from the situation he mentioned.” – Jan 11, 2023
