PETALING JAYA: The first phase of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid for the B40 community will be disbursed starting tomorrow.
In a statement, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the cash aid totalling RM1.67 billion was to be disbursed in March but will instead be credited into the bank accounts of the 8.7 million applicants from tomorrow in order to help them deal with the high cost of living.
He said B40 households will receive RM300, with single senior citizens and bachelors each receiving RM100.
According to Anwar, STR applicants in rural areas, including in Sabah and Sarawak, will receive the payment on the same date, regardless of whether they have bank accounts or not.
“STR recipients without bank accounts can withdraw the money at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branches starting tomorrow,” he said.
The public will be able to check payment updates from tomorrow, while further information can be obtained under the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on STR’s official website.

It is an unfortunate symptom of Malaysia's low-income trap that 8.7 Million people fall into this category.
