Unwilling to ditch myPPP, Kavyeas eyes comeback as independent

BUNTONG: Former MyPPP president M Kayveas, who is contesting the general election as an independent candidate, said he is doing so as he is unwilling to leave his party to join another.

Kayveas, a former Taiping MP, is contesting the Ipoh Barat parliamentary seat while the party’s Perak chief Iruthiyam Sebastiar Anthonisamy would contest the Buntong state seat.

When asked why he did not opt to join another political party, Kayveas said, “I cannot bring myself to join any other party”. He said he would never leave myPPP.

Kayveas said he was contesting the elections to provide a check and balance on the main coalitions.

“Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Pejuang have all said that after GE15, they can combine to form the government. Clearly, that means the rakyat no longer has a check and balance or an opposition any more.

“And this is not something that hasn’t happened, as we saw post-GE14, this has happened,” Kayveas said.

He urged voters to consider the independent candidates as alternatives to the established political parties. More than 100 independents are contesting the 2022 general election.

  1. As a former president, he should be more aware of the need for party discipline.

Stranger still as he claims he does not wish to leave the party.
