Umno confident of defeating Muhyiddin in his Pagoh

Umno confident of defeating Muhyiddin in his Pagoh

Umno is confident of recapturing the Pagoh parliamentary seat in the 15th general election, said party supreme council member Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

According to him, this is because Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the incumbent Pagoh MP, is losing popularity among voters, especially the Chinese.

"We know Muhyiddin had to rely on Chinese voters to win Pagoh, but Bersatu is no longer getting support from them," Shabery (above) told a press conference at the BN headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Shabery noted that PAS, which is currently part of PN, lost its deposit in Pagoh in the 14th general election, and as such, PN can't rely on the Islamist party.

"I can guarantee that after the election, Bersatu will lose a great deal of support," he added.

Shabery also expressed confidence that BN would recapture the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, and gain a simple majority of 112 parliamentary seats, to form the next federal government.

BN is fielding former Muar MP Razali Ibrahim to face Muhyiddin, who is the 10-term MP for the seat. The third contender is PKR's Iskandar Shah Abd Rahman, who will be representing Pakatan Harapan.

Muhyiddin had previously said that GE15 will be his last election outing.

As for Titiwangsa, BN is fielding Johari Abdul Ghani, who served as a one-term MP for Titiwangsa (from 2013-2018) to face Bersatu's Rina Harun.

  1. Some time ago it was mentioned that Moo would not be defending his Pagoh seat, mainly in recognition of his very tough situation there.
I suppose he was "Convinced" to change his mind, but his situation in Pagoh remains very tough
