KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR vice-president Tian Chua will lodge a police report against P Prabakaran tomorrow after the latter claimed that he was preventing Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.
At a press conference here, Tian Chua’s lawyer Gurmukh Singh said they would also take legal action against Prabakaran for slander and defamation.
“We will file a civil suit under Section 500 of the Penal Code and seek due process in court after lodging a police report,” he said.
On Monday, Malaysiakini reported that Prabakaran had claimed that Tian Chua was out to “sap support” from PH in Batu to prevent Anwar from becoming the prime minister.
Prabakaran allegedly said that Tian Chua’s claim of “one vote for me (Tian Chua) is one vote for Harapan” would confuse PH supporters.
Yesterday, Tian Chua gave Prabakaran, the former Batu MP, 24 hours to retract the claim and issue an apology.
At the press conference today, Tian Chua, who is contesting the Batu seat, said he supported Anwar as PH’s prime ministerial candidate and had signed a statutory declaration on Oct 26 on the matter.
He said his decision to contest the Batu seat as an independent did not change the fact that he continued to support Anwar and PH’s political agenda.
“The Batu voters genuinely want to see Anwar lead the government but also want a vocal and qualified MP to represent them, which is why I’m contesting,” he said.
