Maszlee apologises for poor reaction on being heckled

In a video clip, Maszlee Malik said the actions of the villager who heckled him did not reflect the attitude of Umno as a whole.

PETALING JAYA: Former Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has apologised for making a generalisation about Umno members and supporters after he was heckled by an angry villager when visiting a flood relief centre this morning.

Maszlee said the actions of the villager, who he claimed was an Umno supporter, was not a reflection of the attitude of Umno as a whole.

In a video posted on his TikTok account this evening, Maszlee said he had reacted poorly after the incident in generalising Umno supporters.

He then cited Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad as a model professional who upheld a positive image of Umno.

Videos of the incident circulating on social media showed Maszlee speaking about being barred from entering the Sungai Linau relief centre.

An elderly man could then be seen shouting at Maszlee and confronting him, asking the former education minister what he had done for the people.

Two police officers stepped in and escorted the elderly man away.

Later, another man could be seen approaching Maszlee and telling him that politicians were not allowed in the area.

He asked Maszlee, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Simpang Renggam, to leave the area.
