Khairy ‘begs’ PAS, PH supporters to vote for him
Khairy Jamaluddin promised to ‘take care’ of PAS and Pakatan Harapan supporters in Sungai Buloh if he is elected.
PETALING JAYA: Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has pleaded with PAS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters to vote for him in the general election (GE15).
He warned them against splitting votes, which he said would almost certainly cause him to lose in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat where he is standing as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.
“I ask PAS supporters here, please vote for me this time, don’t vote for Perikatan Nasional. Otherwise, the votes will be split and we (BN) will not win,” he said during a ceramah last night.
The three-term Rembau MP also tried to convince PH supporters to vote for him, citing the dilemma they may be facing in making a decision based on party or candidate.
“I know PH supporters are in a dilemma now, whether to vote for PH or for myself. They may like the candidate (Khairy) but want to remain loyal to PH,” he said.
Khairy added that PH supporters needed to send a signal to the coalition’s leaders that some check and balance is needed in Sungai Buloh.
He also promised to “take care” of PAS and PH supporters if he wins the election.
Khairy will be facing off against R Ramanan of PH, Ghazali Hamin (PN), Akmal Yusoff (Pejuang), Ahmad Jufliz (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and two independents.
PKR’s R Sivarasa won the Sungai Buloh seat in the last general election in 2018 with a 26,634 vote majority against PAS’ Nuridah Salleh. He was dropped from contesting in GE15 due to “health issues”.
