PETALING JAYA: The woman who is alleged to have insulted Islam in a performance at a comedy club needs help, says actor-comedian Harith Iskander.

He said the woman’s actions were “not funny at all” and were inappropriate. They did not reflect what stand-up comedy actually was.

He also defended the Crackhouse Comedy Club in Kuala Lumpur for allowing the woman to perform that night, pointing out that it was an open mike night when anyone can take the stage to do stand-up comedy.

“This woman wanted to shock people to get their attention,” he said in an Instagram post. “She needs help.”

The woman has since been arrested by the police and remanded for three days at the Brickfields police headquarters for investigations.

A 54-second video, which went viral on social media, showed the woman introducing herself as a Muslim woman. She claimed to have memorised 15 chapters of the Quran.

She then proceeded to discard her tudung and baju kurung, revealing a halter-top blouse and miniskirt.

Following the incident, the club lodged a police report at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station against the woman, adding that she and her partner had been barred from the venue immediately after the performance.

Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur City Hall suspended the club’s operations.
