PETALING JAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has asked the government to give an update on the special committee to wage “jihad” on inflation, saying the committee has not produced any framework to tackle inflation.

The committee was established last month and was tasked to formulate strategies to tackle inflation and the rising prices of goods.

“Where is the special committee to wage ‘jihad’ on inflation?” he said in a Facebook post.

“The special committee which was announced by the government in June has not come up with any framework related to the inflation in the country.”

The six-member committee is chaired by communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa.

The members of the committee are finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, agriculture and food industries minister Ronald Kiandee, domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi, economic affairs minister Mustapa Mohamed and Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali.

Syed Saddiq also questioned why the communications and multimedia minister was appointed to chair a task force formed to tackle inflation.

He claimed that it was unlikely the committee would be able to come up with ways to tackle the problem, similar to other committees that were established previously to address the rising cost of living.

These include the National Action Council on Cost of Living, the National Consumer Action Council, the Economic Action Council and the National Rehabilitation Council.

“What happened to these committees, and where are their reports?” asked Syed Saddiq.

  1. It is a past time of successive Malaysian governments to form committees, councils and even RCIs to impress the rakyat.

And that is exactly what these gatherings are - to impress the rakyat; never mind if there are no solutions or outcomes.

As they say, "style ada saja, kalah tidah apa"

  2. It stands to reason the Jihadi sympathisers love the term "Jihad against inflation" even if it is meaningless.
