Najib taunts Rafizi with 5 ‘failures’ to complain about

Former prime minister Najib Razak has posted a list of five achievements, describing them as ‘lies’ about which Rafizi Ramli could lodge police reports.

PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak tonight taunted PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli with a list of five supposed “lies” which Rafizi should counter.

Najib’s challenge came as PKR leaders prepared to lodge a wave of police reports against him, with Rafizi saying he and vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad would lodge complaints tomorrow about Najib’s negligence in dealing with claims by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate.

The list comprises some of his achievements during his time in office as prime minister, which he contrasted by listing Pakatan Harapan’s performance in the five matters.

Najib said Malaysia’s assets had gone up and the economy had improved during his tenure, contrary to the opposition’s claims that he had doomed the economy.

While the national debt had risen to RM687 billion from RM324 billion, the gross domestic product (GDP) had also increased by RM659 billion.

However, under Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), national debt had ballooned to RM1 trillion, while GDP increased by only RM224.5 billion in the same period.

Najib said he had never raided Petronas’ reserves, and that the national oil company had amassed a surplus of RM227 billion over nine years. However, under PH and PN, Petronas suffered a deficit of RM12.9 billion in a matter of four years.

Assets of the sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah Nasional Bhd, had increased fourfold to RM116 billion from RM33 billion, but the value of Khazanah’s assets had plunged after the 2018 general election, when PH gained power.

He also said that under PN and PH, the ringgit and Bursa Malaysia index had become weaker, compared to its performance in April 2018.

Najib said the government’s dividends and placement profits were a lot higher compared to the years after the 2018 elections.

“This is all for now. Five more facts PKR and the opposition should lodge against me for lying,” Najib said.

Najib and Rafizi have made a series of attacks and counter-attacks on social media over the past few months since Rafizi made a comeback to active politics after a two-year absence, standing for election to fill the vacant post of PKR deputy president.

He was elected to the post last month, defeating PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

On Sunday, Rafizi urged PKR members to lodge reports against Najib regarding the claim by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate for billions in compensation for ceding sovereignty over Sabah.

In response, Najib dared PKR members to lodge reports against him every time he supposedly posted lies on social media, saying he was not afraid of their threats.

  1. I must say Najib, as a convicted felon (although appealing) seems arrogantly confident about his continued freedom.

He does not seem worried about his 1MDB case and the SRC conviction looks to be merely an irritation.

Is something afoot? We live in interesting times.
