Govt pay subsidy 8 sen per egg or rakyat encouraged to eat less eggs

Poultry farmers ask govt for 8 sen subsidy per chicken egg

Since July 1, the ceiling price for Grade A chicken egg has been fixed at 45 sen each, Grade B (43 sen) and Grade C (41 sen).

PETALING JAYA: A group representing poultry farmers wants the government to provide subsidy assistance of eight sen per chicken egg.

The Federation of Livestock Farmers Associations of Malaysia (FLFAM) said the subsidy assistance would help sustain the egg farming industry and ensure national food security.

“In view of the rising cost of production due to the increase in the price of poultry feed, raw materials, and transportation, aside from the labour shortage, we farmers are requesting for a subsidy of eight sen per egg,” it said in a statement.

Since July 1, the government had fixed the ceiling price for Grade A chicken egg at 45 sen each, Grade B (43 sen) and Grade C (41 sen).

The ceiling price for a standard whole chicken, which was previously capped at RM8.90 per kg was also revised to RM9.40 per kg.

On July 1, finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said Putrajaya had set aside additional subsidies of RM370 million for chicken and eggs in July and August.
