China rejects Nasa accusation it will take over the moon
China on Monday rejected as an irresponsible smear a warning from the chief of Nasa that China might "take over" the moon as part of a military programme, saying it has always called for the building of a community of nations in outer space.
China has stepped up the pace of its space programme in the past decade, with an exploration of the moon a focus. China made its first lunar uncrewed landing in 2013 and expects to launch rockets powerful enough to send astronauts to the moon towards the end of this decade.
"We must be very concerned that China is landing on the moon and saying: 'It's ours now and you stay out'," Nasa administrator Bill Nelson told German newspaper Bild in an interview published last Saturday.
The US space agency chief said China's space programme was a military one and that China had stolen ideas and technology from others.
"This is not the first time that the head of the US Nasa has ignored the facts and spoken irresponsibly about China," said Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign ministry.
"The US side has constantly constructed a smear campaign against China's normal and reasonable outer space endeavours, and China firmly opposes such irresponsible remarks."
China has always promoted the building of a shared future for humanity in outer space and opposed its weaponisation and any arms race in space, Zhao said.
Nasa, under its Artemis programme, plans to send a crewed mission to orbit the moon in 2024 and make a crewed landing near the lunar south pole by 2025.
China is planning uncrewed missions to the moon's south pole sometime this decade.

The People's Republic of China has extrapolated a few Ming Dynasty wrecks and porcelain remains, descriptions in 500 year-old Chinese texts into artificial South China Seas islands with runways for fighter jets and missile batteries with "sovereign territory" and repudiation of ICJ rulings, claim over the entire South China Sea as territorial waters where foreign military vessels and aircraft are forbidden to enter.
ReplyDeleteI would say the possibility of the People's Republic of China someday claiming the Moon as their sovereign territory , Defence Identification Zone restrictions in place is not a wild smear.
Mfer, where is yr proofs for these lies?
ReplyDelete"ICJ rulings, claim over the entire South China Sea as territorial waters where foreign military vessels and aircraft are forbidden to enter"
ICJ ruling? When, where & by who?
Or u have twisted that illegal pinnoy concocted case of July 2016, an ARBITRATION TRIBUNAL constituted under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) ruled against the PRC's maritime claims in Philippines v. China. The tribunal did not rule on the ownership of the islands or delimit maritime boundaries.
If yr fart of " foreign military vessels and aircraft are forbidden to enter" then how do those US, France & UK have conducted freedom of navigation operations (FONOP) in the region?
All these twisted lies just prove conclusively yr persistent China bashings using wild smears!
US and othe4 Western military aircraft and vessels entering the South China Sea are seriously contested by the People's Republic of China armed forces, clearly an attempt by the People's Republic of China, to exercise sovereignty over the whole South China Sea.
DeleteThe only reason China has not been able to physically stop them is because of the risk of triggering a shooting war - which even Winnie the Pooh knows will be severely detrimental to everyone.
Wakakakaka…
DeleteKnow nothing fart AGAIN!
"US and othe4 Western military aircraft and vessels entering the South China Sea are seriously contested by the People's Republic of China armed forces"
Bcoz these intrusions violate the rule of international navigation within the EEZ!
The difference between territorial sea and the EEZ is that the former confers full sovereignty over the waters, whereas the latter is merely a “sovereign right” which refers to the coastal nation's rights below the surface of the sea. The surface waters are international waters.
All foreign military/civilian maritime vehicles entering an EEZ must follow strict INTERNATIONAL navigation protocols - early announcement of navigational intention.
These US & other Western military aircraft and vessels entering the South China Sea DIDN'T follow that set protocols. Thus were been seriously contested by the People's Republic of China armed forces.
This time round, no more untoward incidents happened bcoz all these intruders left quickly.
China will not allow that similar incident of the Hainan Island incident occurred on April 1, 2001, when an US Navy EP-3E ARIES II signals intelligence aircraft and a PLA Navy J-8II interceptor fighter jet collided in mid-air, resulting in the missing (death) of the Chinese pilot!
