Israeli tourism in Cyprus is surging, with nearly 600,000 trips by Israelis last year and growing investment across multiple industries. Israeli politics has even broken through.

Cypriots say the influx is threatening local businesses and pushing communities out of their neighbourhoods.

‘Collective punishment’: Netanyahu orders mass arrests and home demolitions in Hebron

Israel’s military is carrying out another major operation in the occupied West Bank involving mass arrests, home demolitions and the forcible displacement of residents, following the killing of two Israeli soldiers in a checkpoint attack near Hebron on Friday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who ordered a full lockdown of the West Bank, said troops would go house to house in the Hebron neighbourhood where the two suspected gunmen came from.

“We will act to destroy this place, to change it completely,” he said.

By Saturday morning, Israeli forces had raided hundreds of homes and turned dozens into military interrogation centres, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, which said about 70 people were arrested between Friday and early Saturday.

About 300 Palestinian families were being displaced from the city’s al-Jalda neighbourhood, Al Jazeera’s correspondents reported.

The Israeli rights group B’Tselem warned that the plans amount to “collective punishment and acts that could constitute war crimes”.

Yemen’s armed forces claim Houthi missile killed three after hitting family home in Sanaa

Government forces in Yemen say a Houthi ballistic missile hit a family home, killing three people and wounding five, including women and children.

Spokesman Colonel Majed Abdullah al-Nazili said in a statement that the house was hit on Friday in the Masoura area of Sanaa governorate.

Earlier, Yemeni forces said the missile failed to continue on its course after being launched from the Nihm area and fell on a family home.

The army said several Houthi ballistic missiles have recently been seen to fail during or after launch and crash in populated areas, posing a danger to civilians.

Hebron governor forms crisis cell for families forced from homes by Israeli army

Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin has chaired an emergency meeting to form a crisis cell to respond to the needs of Palestinian families forced out of their homes by Israeli forces, Wafa reports.

The meeting on Saturday brought together officials, including Culture Minister Imad Hamdan, Hebron Mayor Yousef al-Jabari and security chiefs, according to the Palestinian news agency.

Joining by telephone, Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa said they would keep pressing foreign governments to stop Israeli violations.

Dudin said Israel is launching a “serious attack” on residents in an attempt to impose a forced reality on the ground. He announced a committee to track the situation of the affected families, assess their needs and coordinate relief.

Israeli forces have forced large numbers of residents from their homes in the Ein Deir Bahha and al-Jalda areas since Friday, along with raids, arrests, road closures and demolitions elsewhere in the governorate. Hundreds of families have left their homes to look for safe shelter.

    Netanyahu has ‘normalised displacing’ Palestinians

Abed Abou Shhadeh, a political analyst in Jaffa, has told Al Jazeera that Israel has “normalised displacing people” in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and southern Lebanon.

“The idea of displacing people, I mean hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced among those places since 2023,” he said.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “understands that Israel has this impunity, one of the few countries in the world with this impunity, to do these actions and undermine the global order”.

“Israel is spreading this idea that Palestinians should not have hope. It’s spreading hopelessness in the West Bank,” he added.

Within Israel, the people who are opposing these actions are “ex-military, ex-security generals and officers”, he said, but “these people understand that these are not strategic objectives, and that there are around seven million Palestinians in Palestine now.”

“The strategy for now is that Netanyahu wants to win the elections, even though he is behind according to the latest polls. So he is trying to spread more chaos and disorder in order to get some unity in the government, anything that would keep him in power,” said Abou Shhadeh.
