PA’s Foreign Ministry urges global action to stop repeat of ‘Israeli crimes in Gaza’ in West Bank

Palestine’s Foreign Ministry urges international governments to take “clear and firm” positions on Israel’s escalating violations in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, including forced displacement and destruction.

In a statement on X, the ministry said it had directed Palestinian embassies and missions around the world to continue urgent action with the governments of the countries where they are accredited.

It warned of “inflammatory statements by Israeli officials threatening to repeat in the West Bank the crimes committed in Gaza,” by escalating attacks to levels “unprecedented since 1967,” citing increasing forced displacements, evacuations and the destruction neighbourhoods in Hebron.

The ministry said this amounted to measures to “reproduce the Nakba” with “renewed military and colonial tools,” amid the Israeli election race and a pursuit of political gains at the expense of Palestinian rights.

Confronting the escalation requires urgent international action “that goes beyond condemnation” to concrete, deterrent measures that end the policy of impunity, the ministry said.

Israeli army orders remaining families out of Hebron’s al-Jalda and Ein Deir Bahha

Israeli forces are demanding that the remaining Palestinian families in the Ein Dier Baha and al-Jalda areas of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, evacuate their homes, the Hebron municipality said in a statement.

The municipality said the Israeli military was ordering the families to leave without taking their vehicles.

The statement said the Israeli army had forced about 1,500 Palestinians from 250 families to flee their homes since Friday and that they intended to displace about 2,500 more Palestinians in the coming hours

The demand comes a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered Hebron closed and for the West Bank to be placed under “full lockdown”.

US embassy in Baghdad warns of limited help for Americans in Iraq

The US embassy in Baghdad has warned that its ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in Iraq is limited due to security risks.

The warning comes as the embassy says its travel advisory for Iraq remains at the highest level, amid threats of escalating Houthi attacks.

The Iraqi government cannot guarantee the safety of Americans against acts of violence or sudden conflicts, the embassy added.

Behind in the polls, Netanyahu and allies trying to capitalise on Hebron attack aftermath

Netanyahu, his Likud party, and his allies in this right-wing coalition are behind in the polls.

They’re trying to capitalise on the aftermath of the Hebron attack, trying to put up a brave front, saying they’re combating Palestinians.

They want to renew their mandate to do even more in Palestine and the region.

Netanyahu said “When we win the election, we’ll finish the job. We’ve completed 90 percent; we need to take it all the way, that means bringing down the Iranian regime and finishing off Hamas and Hezbollah.”

So, the agenda is more war in Lebanon, in Syria, on the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, but also on Iran; that is the 90 percent reference from Netanyahu.

Hebron’s mayor says about 2,200 Palestinians forced from their homes

Hebron Mayor Yousef al-Ja’bari has spoken with Al Jazeera as Israeli military forces lock down Hebron and displace families.

    Here is what he said:

    • Israeli forces raided the areas of al-Jalda and Ein Deir Bahha on Friday, forcing about 2,200 Palestinians out of their homes.
    • Residents can neither enter nor leave Hebron after Israel’s decision to close the city.
    • Israel’s policy is clear: It is based on collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
    • Netanyahu’s policy of forcibly displacing Hebron’s residents is being pursued for electoral purposes.
    • Israeli forces removed all staff from the Ibrahimi Mosque, banned all prayers and closed its gates.
    • The humanitarian situation in the city is difficult, and its institutions are working around the clock to meet people’s needs.
    • Israel’s operations are unjustified, and hundreds of factories have been shut down.

‘Children, women and elders’ in Hebron forced to leave their homes with nowhere to go

Issa Amro, a Palestinian activist and political analyst based in Hebron, said nearly 800,000 Palestinians in the governorate are “now under siege, with all entrances and exits closed since morning”.

Speaking to Al Jazeera from the West Bank city, Amro said that since yesterday afternoon, “the Israeli military started announcing [evacuation warnings] in neighbourhoods, forcing the children, women and elders to leave their homes to nowhere.”

Amro described families leaving in the middle of the night, “without carrying enough goods or clothing, or the children’s schoolbags – they were walking with fear, without knowing where they were going”.

The activist said the Israeli military had “closed checkpoints in the city centre, locking down nearly 1,000 Palestinian families inside homes – and they are not allowed to leave or get access to essentials”.

‘No safe place for anyone to hide’ inside Hebron

Issa Amro, a Palestinian political analyst based in Hebron, has been speaking with Al Jazeera about the ongoing Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank.

“It’s a part of the election campaign as well,” Amro said, adding that recent polls in Israel show PM Netanyahu’s bloc falling short of a majority in the upcoming election.

“They want to do a big propaganda campaign about the West Bank, as Netanyahu said he will do things to the Palestinians never done since 1967,” Amro said, adding that “there is no military infrastructure in Hebron, the second major city after Jerusalem, where Israeli settlers have been living illegally”.

“Inside the city, there is no safe place for anyone to hide, and the Israeli military is making arrests almost every day,” he said. “The city is really in fear.”

Amro said that his main concern is that the “international community will stay silent” in the face of escalating attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank.

He said that he fears the Israeli government will “do big harm to the Palestinian institutions, companies, and infrastructure in Hebron, as they did in Gaza”.

‘Big surprise’ awaits the Palestinian Authority, says Netanyahu

The Israeli PM says a “big surprise” is in store for the PA, after he ordered a large-scale military operation following an attack on soldiers in the occupied West Bank.

“In this election, we have to stop a Palestinian state from being established,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Israel’s i24 News late on Friday.

Just days before legislative elections, he avoided answering directly whether he intended to dismantle the PA, but indicated that he preferred a “surprise and ambush” approach.

“I’ll work to neutralise that threat using measures I think are better kept under wraps for now, so we can maintain the element of surprise,” he said. “And there’s another big surprise coming for the Palestinian Authority.”

“We can bring more countries into the Abraham Accords, and those countries won’t make the creation of a Palestinian state a condition, because they know we’re not going to accept that. And we’re talking about more than two countries.”

“We have changed the Middle East. I said we would make a change, and that’s what we have done,” he added.
