Rosmah Mansor filed a defamation suit against comedian Harith Iskander over a joke during a stand-up performance which she claimed amounted to body shaming.
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, has filed a defamation suit against actor-comedian Harith Iskander over an alleged joke during a stand-up performance which she claims amounted to body shaming.
Rosmah, 75, filed the writ of summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court through Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, naming Harith as the defendant, Sinar Harian reported.
In her statement of claim, Rosmah said the suit was related to a performance titled “Harith Iskander: The Outspoken Comedy Tour”, held at the Swiss-Garden Hotel, Melaka, on Jan 17.
She claimed that during the performance, Harith displayed images of mythical creatures including a toyol, pontianak and pocong before showing her photograph as part of the joke.
Rosmah also claimed Harith said that a driver looking in the rear-view mirror while driving on a dark road would see something frightening, before showing her image to the audience.
Rosmah alleged that the act portrayed her appearance as comparable to that of scary creatures, making her the subject of ridicule and humiliation in front of the audience.
She claimed the statements were made publicly with the intention of damaging her dignity, reputation and name through comments targeting her physical appearance.
Rosmah also claimed that recordings of the performance were uploaded on several social media platforms, including TikTok, where they were viewed by hundreds of thousands of users and widely circulated.
As a result, she alleged that she was subjected to criticism, ridicule and insults, causing her emotional distress, embarrassment and serious harm to her reputation.
Rosmah is seeking aggravated damages, exemplary damages, costs and any other relief deemed fit by the court.
She is also seeking an injunction to stop Harith from making statements allegedly defamatory of her and to remove all related content from social media platforms.
In addition, Rosmah is seeking an unconditional apology from Harith and the publication of a retraction in at least two mainstream newspapers and on agreed social media accounts.
