A SELF-PROCLAIMED grassroot PKR member who has just exited the party three days prior (April 6) has boldly set a yardstick to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s combating corruption prowess – the day when twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his predecessor Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob are charged in court.


This follows a seemingly ‘boastful’ social media post by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that PMX has re-affirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to continuously intensify efforts to combat corruption at all levels of administration.


“He (PMX) emphasised that integrity, accountability and transparent governance are essential foundations to ensure that public trust is preserved and national resources are utilised fairly and effectively,” stressed PMO on X.

The post which was coincidentally uploaded following the ‘gate-crashing’ of Malaysia’s top graft buster Tan Sri Azam Baki’s keynote address session by “the MANDIRI trio” at the Wacana Ilmiah Perdana programme in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (April 7) has in all frankness invited a lot of ridicule from commenters.


“What about TunM whom you once shouted at the top of your lungs about how he had sakau (plundered) billions to enrich his children/family?” challenged Afral Abdullah who is disillusioned with PMX’s somehow ‘selective prosecution’ of XXX.

“Why hasn’t he been charged yet? Why haven’t his children been charged yet? What will happen if you don’t become PM again after GE16 (16th General Election)?”


But Afral who used to be a staunch backer of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli did not stop at the now opposition-slant centenarian statesman who reigned as PM for 22 years and 22 months.

“Why hasn’t (PM9) @IsmailSabri60 been charged yet? What evidence are you waiting for? Gold bars and government money have been confiscated,” he further jibed.

“No need to mention other cases … These two cases are enough. Is this act of melalak (howling) merely rhetoric? ”

This is when one commenter wondered how many corrupters have gone to prison given PMX has been consistently boasting about his anti-corruption drive. Probably, he need not over-publicise his passion to combat corruption openly but suffice “to nab the sharks quietly”.

Another simply wanted to know “how many were charged, how many got DNAA (discharge not amounting to dismissal), how many cases closed just like that”.

“Show us the numbers and less talk please,” he insisted.

Another insinuated that whether its “plundering billions or arresting the sharks”, PMX has failed to show leadership by example as “his own deputy (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) got away with DNAA by virtue of being a DPM”.

This according to the commenter, can have a devastating effect leading to a collapse of the Madani government come GE16.


Likewise, one commenter urged a stop with the rhetoric given the shareholding case of Azam who is also the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) chief commissioner “has been dead silent until now”.
