  • Iran’s Foreign Minister Araqchi says US President ‌Donald Trump’s warning against Tehran of military action should ‌protests turn ‌bloody motivated “terrorists” to target protesters and security forces ‌in order to invite foreign intervention.
  • Trump has repeatedly threatened to intervene in Iran, warning he has “very strong options” as the US military studies the situation while his administration is in contact with Iranian opposition leaders.
  • Iran’s government declares three days of national mourning for the “martyrs” killed in two weeks of protests, including members of security forces.
  • At least 100 security personnel have been killed in recent days, state media report, while opposition activists say the death toll is higher and includes dozens of protesters. Al Jazeera cannot independently verify either figure.

Small demonstrations reported in several Iranian cities overnight

Iran’s Fars news agency reports “limited” protests took place in the Navvab and Saadat Abad neighbourhoods in the capital, Tehran, on Sunday night.

In southwestern Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, protesters gathered in the cities of Hafshejan and Junqan. A demonstration also occurred in Taybad county in northeastern Razavi Khorasan province.

Security forces intervened and dispersed the protesters, according to Fars. Other cities and provinces in the country were calm overnight, it said.

Iran’s supreme leader appears to liken Trump to ‘tyrants of this world’

Iran’s supreme leader has taken to social media seemingly to hit back at Trump’s frequent taunting and threatening remarks about his country.

In a post written in Persian, Khamenei said: “Let that fellow who sits there with arrogance and pride, judging the whole world, also know that the tyrants and the arrogant of this world, such as Pharaoh, Nimrod, Reza Shah, Mohammad Reza Shah and the like, were overthrown when they were at the height of their pride; he too will be overthrown.”

Authoritarian dictatorship ALWAYS say dissent and protests are "stoked and fuelled by evil foreign elements".
They can never see themselves in the mirror that their policies and actions, especially brutal actions, are generating revolt.
