Farhash tells Rafizi to apologise for linking him to son’s attack

Farhash tells Rafizi to apologise for linking him to son’s attack

But the Pandan MP maintains that his statements are factual, saying he is ready to defend his claim in court

Last week, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli claimed the attack on his son came after he received information from whistleblowers on a ‘scandal’ involving businessman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak.

PETALING JAYA: Businessman Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak has demanded that Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli apologise for linking him to an alleged scandal and the recent attack on the former minister’s son.

Rafizi said he had received a letter of demand from Farhash dated Aug 22, demanding that he also stop repeating the claim which he made in a social media post on Aug 20.

In the letter of demand, law firm Ahmad Deniel, Ruben & Co said Rafizi’s allegations were false and had seriously damaged Farhash’s reputation by implying that he was involved in the attack on Rafizi’s son.

It said Rafizi had published the post in bad faith with no reasonable effort to prevent tarnishing Farhash’s name, amid a police investigation into the attack.

The lawyers demanded that Rafizi take down the postings on all platforms and issue a public retraction and apology on social media within two days.

The former PKR deputy president however maintained that his statements were factual and said he was ready to defend them in court, now that the two-day deadline had expired.

“If Farhash files a lawsuit in court, it will become a case of public interest and my lawyers will have the opportunity to ask the questions that others have been raising all this while,” he said in a statement.

In his social media post on Aug 20, Rafizi had denied any links between the attack on his son and former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob or former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Rafizi said the claims were aimed at distracting attention from the real mastermind behind the attack, which he said came a week after he met with informants on a “scandal” he was looking into.

“The information I received involved Farhash and the business dealings of his companies,” the former economy minister said in the post.

Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya earlier this month. He said CCTV footage showed that two men, dressed in black with their faces fully covered by helmets, had followed his wife’s car on a motorcycle.

His son, who was dragged and stabbed with a syringe, was rushed to hospital for treatment and a check-up. The assailants meanwhile escaped.

The former minister said he believed the attack was to warn him against speaking out on certain issues, revealing that his wife had received threatening messages from an unknown person the following day.
