Will MACC spare whistleblower to go after reps, asks Zaid

Based on MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s disclosure, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim noted that a whistleblower appears to be the key witness in prosecuting the assemblypersons filmed discussing the alleged bribes they had received.
“The only hope we have is that MACC will spare the whistleblower even if he was involved and charge the others who had allegedly taken bribes.
“Will MACC act professionally and fairly to the whistleblower? The answer is yes if MACC is committed to charging the assemblypersons,” he told Malaysiakini.
Zaid was commenting on Azam revealing that the whistleblower’s lawyer had requested MACC to ink an agreement that his client would not be investigated if he provided the evidence.
However, the MACC chief said his officers declined to sign the agreement as the commission is not required to do so.

Azam also urged the whistleblower to file an official complaint with MACC to initiate the former’s request for protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010.
He assured that MACC would act according to the law to ensure the case is dealt with fairly and professionally.
Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil also urged the whistleblower to lodge a report.
Immunity
Zaid stated that according to the law, the whistleblower must file a report to be granted immunity.
“MACC may revoke that immunity under certain circumstances but that’s the uncertainty a whistleblower has to live with,” he added.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that it had sighted eight videos, each featuring a different assemblyperson, discussing “bribes” to support a project in their state.
Malaysiakini was also shown documents related to the project and online banking details concerning the alleged bribes.
In the recordings, which are believed to be from early this year, the businessperson, whose face was not visible, could be heard discussing the terms for the repayment of the alleged bribes since the licence for the project was rescinded.
It is understood that there are several more videos of other assemblypersons.
A source told Malaysiakini that the whistleblower is willing to spill the beans but is seeking protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act.

Will Zaid support action against Reps even if they are UMNO core leaders ?
ReplyDeleteZaid's continuing pursuit of "Free Najib" does not inspire confidence in whether he really supports action against institutionalised corruption and abuse of power, without fear or favour .
