Is Muhyiddin under siege, caught unaware he’s surrounded by enemies from within his own party?
A SOCIAL media influencer has expressed surprise as to how Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is touted as the mastermind of the Sheraton Move which eventually led to his appointment as the eighth prime minister (PM8) can be so oblivious to the presence of a snake in the grass in his party.
This came about as A.Quddus (@usernamekudus) questioned the absence of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman’s name in the list of top brass line-up for the purported Sheraton Move 2.0 orchestrated by the opposition front by bringing UMNO into the equation.
“Why didn’t he ask @hamzahzainudin (secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin)? Isn’t there a WhatsApp group in Bersatu?” asked a baffled A.Quddus.

“Does this mean that @PejaOfPerak (vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu) and @RadziJidin (vice-president Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin) don’t see eye-to-eye in Bersatu? Whose gang then does @AzminAli (Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali) belong to?”
The poster was referring to what was described as a backdoor government list exposed by political activist Liyana Marzuki who claimed that “a Little Bird has shared the line-up proposed to UMNO” with her.
The list, among others, named Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the PM candidate with Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as Deputy PM.
Other nominees included Radzi as Finance Minister, Hamzah (Home Minister), Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (Agriculture Minister) and PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (Religious Affairs Minister).

Reacting to the line-up which she described as nothing more than “political gossip”, Liyana reckoned that there could be a hidden agenda in its circulation.
” I receive many such gossips. Sometimes they are merely a smokescreen, sometimes they want to use me to push a particular narrative. But whether the above gossip is true or not, it’s simple for me. The fact is that the present government is hard to topple.”
As the above development unfolded, Muhyiddin who is also the Pagoh MP had cleared the air by having stated that no leader of the opposition coalition had been given the mandate to negotiate with BN to form a new unity government.
He also denied claims that PN had anything to do with the statement made by Zahid who is also the UMNO president that there had been attempts to woo BN away from the current Madani government.
At the same time, Malay language news portal Sinar Harian has cited Muhyiddin as confirming the appointment of Azmin who is the Selangor Bersatu chairman as the party’s and PN’s new secretary-general to replace Opposition leader and Larut MP Hamzah who is now the Bersatu deputy president.
It was previously reported that Azmin who is also the Hulu Kelang state assemblyman had turned down the offer as he wanted to focus on leading Selangor PN to victory in the next state polls. – Nov 27, 2024
