UPNM cadet burned on the chest while ordered to iron senior’s shirt
A STUDENT at Malaysia’s National Defence University (UPNM) reported being burnt on the chest with a hot iron by a senior cadet, who allegedly forced him to iron his shirt.
The incident, which occurred on Oct 22 in a dormitory, led to a police report made on Friday (Nov 1). An investigation under Section 324 of the Penal Code is underway, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said.
“Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 11.45pm in the UPNM dormitory. The 20-year-old victim was initially asked to iron a work shirt belonging to a senior student, who is also a fourth-year cadet officer.
“The senior student, however, suddenly took the iron from the victim and pressed it against the right side of his chest.”
The Armed Forces (ATM) confirmed they are conducting a thorough investigation and assured strict disciplinary or legal action if guilt is established.
Commander of the Armed Forces, General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman, said that a detailed investigation is underway.
On Wednesday (Oct 30), the ATM stated that the incident, which involved a cadet suspected of being bullied by his senior using a hot iron, had left burn marks on the victim’s chest, as widely shared on social media.
The ATM has urged the public to avoid speculation that could hinder the investigation. – Nov 2, 2024
