Shariah lawyer learns from PI unfaithful wives make up big chunk of infidelity cases, social media to blame
A SOCIAL media post by Shariah lawyer Peguam Syarie Atikah (@Atikah10490) has got tongues wagging.
She claimed to have hired a private investigator (PI) on behalf of a client to track down the next of kin in an inheritance case.
“He is an Indian guy,” penned Peguam Syarie Atikah on the X platform. “While chatting with him, I casually asked him if he had previously taken up infidelity cases by spying on unfaithful spouse.”
The PI’s response was that “the number of cases is big” to the extent of having handled “almost 9,000 cases of such nature this year alone”.
However, it wasn’t the claimed number that was shocking to Peguam Syarie Atikah as much as the very fact that the majority of cases involved unfaithful wives
This is because the poster was expecting it to be the other way round only for it to turn out that husbands were the ones who hired PIs to confirm if their wives have been unfaithful to them. The PI blamed social media for this phenomenon,
Peguam Syarie Atikah went on to enquire if majority of the cases involved Muslim couples to which the PI replied in the affirmative.
The lawyer now felt that soliciting PI’s services would be useful to build a case on unfaithful partners. She further noted that the PI was a regular witness at Shariah courts in divorce proceedings.
As for men, the PI – interestingly – shared that he has also come across cases of men (often gay husbands) cheating with other men.
One commenter agreed that social media can indeed “be a very dangerous platform” in fuelling ill temptation. Regardless of gender, extra care must be taken to prevent oneself from falling prey to such vices.
One suggested it was indeed believable that women are the unfaithful lot given they always have one story or another to hide behind.
While another netizen believed that women tend to seek validation via extra-marital affairs after being cheated on by their husbands.
More than one asked for the PI’s contact, indicating urgent need for his services, perhaps giving credence to his outlandish claims of having so many cases per annum.
One commented that it was no surprise that divorce cases were on the rise given the demand for the PI’s services.
However, quite a few were sceptical of the PI’s claims of having handled 9,000 cases this year alone.
Take the numbers with a healthy pinch of salt but there’s no denying that the age of social media has contributed to this rise in adultery. It becomes that much easier to make connections and keep such infidelities secret.
