Muhyiddin divorced but can't move on - Zahid’s matrimonial jab

Muhyiddin Yassin is akin to a husband who is divorced but still unable to move on, said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He used this matrimonial similitude for the Perikatan Nasional chairperson’s remarks on the appointment of the prime minister after the last general election.

Zahid accused Muhyiddin, who was forced to step down as prime minister just after 17 months in 2021, as someone who is “gila talak”.

“Perhaps that person cannot accept that His Majesty (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) made a decree to form a coalition government because His Majesty’s intention at the time was to unite all the parties to prevent further political instability in the country.

“Perhaps this person only views it from the aspect of ‘gila talak’ because he did not get back the position (of prime minister).

“This came from his own mouth when campaigning in the Nenggiri by-election and, in my opinion, it was most ill-mannered towards the Agong,” Zahid (above, right) told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin submitted to the police 115 statutory declarations - including his own - which backed him as prime minister in the aftermath of the 15th general election in November 2022.

He also submitted a letter from the private secretary to the then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah affirming that he had received the declarations on Nov 21, 2022.

On Monday, the Pahang royal household was incensed with Muhyiddin’s speech, in which he lamented not being invited by the Agong to form the government after GE15 despite having the support.

Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah accused the PN chairperson of manipulating facts and called for a police investigation.

Muhyiddin subsequently defended his remarks but denied that he intended to insult the Agong.

On a separate matter, Zahid, who is also the BN chairperson, said the coalition has not finalised a candidate for the Makhota by-election in Johor.

He said a state-level meeting would be held next week to discuss the matter.

“Following this, we will bring it to the Umno political bureau meeting and the meeting of the coalition government secretariat,” he added.
