Penang PAS Youth moves to oust Lau as state PN chief

Penang PAS Youth is pushing to remove Gerakan president Dominic Lau as the state Perikatan Nasional chief.
This decision was made during the Penang PAS Youth muktamar where the proposal was unanimously approved.
According to the state wing information chief, Mohamad Ikhwan Afiq Mohamad Anwar, the motion moved by the Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth division was based on three key considerations.
Namely, the need for a restructuring to ensure PN's survival in Penang, the demographics of Penang, and the demands of grassroots members, he said.
He revealed this on Facebook yesterday. No further details were provided.
Lau has a rocky relationship with Penang PAS.
In last year's state election, he ruffled feathers when he became PN's candidate for Bayan Lepas - a seat that PAS had been eyeing.
This led to an incident where the local PAS machinery snubbed Lau during a PN ceramah.
However, both sides made amends in public after the incident was reported.
Lau lost the contest to Pakatan Harapan’s Azrul Mahathir Aziz.
Political shift
The push against Lau also comes amid a gradual shift in Penang's political landscape.
PAS has been gaining ground in the state, winning seven out of 10 seats contested during last year's state election.
This was a marked increase from the single Penang state seat the Islamist party won in 2018.
By comparison, Gerakan - which once helmed the state government from 1969 to 2008 - failed to win any seats in the state election.
Keep Dominic Lau.
