PAS should support Anwar, says Zaid

PAS should support Anwar, says Zaid

Former minister Zaid Ibrahim has urged PAS to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim following the latter's pledge to fix Kelantan's long-standing water problem.

"I welcome Anwar's much-awaited remark. I support the announcement by the PM one hundred percent, and PAS should do too.

"When the prime minister invites you to work together (to solve a problem at the state level), they (the state) have to be agreeable. And in Parliament, you support the prime minister," Zaid (above) said in a recent video posted on his Facebook.

"It should be on an 'I help you, you help me' basis," he added.

Zaid was commenting on Anwar expressing his desire to fix Kelantan's decades-old water problem, which the premier said requires full cooperation from the state government.

“Kelantan is facing a serious problem with its clean water supply, so I propose that the federal government and the state government work together.

“Let's meet and cooperate on a water supply project that is comprehensive and meets the needs of the whole of Kelantan,” Anwar said in his speech at the Madani open house event in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, last Friday night.

Anwar also praised Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob's willingness to engage and cooperate to solve the state's water problems.

Forgive and forget

Elaborating, Zaid said PAS should also change its hostile politicking style by "forgetting and forgiving past grudges" for the sake of Kelantan's stability and its people's welfare.

"If we want a long-lasting stable government, we should support the current prime minister, in order for him to continue initiatives for the rakyat.

"If he fails (in his job), then, by all means, change him in the next election. But now that Anwar's PM, PAS has to support him. Otherwise, it would be a waste for him to spend money on Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah (PAS-led states)," he remarked.

Zaid stressed that Anwar was a "concerned" leader who cared about the plight of Kelantan folk, despite knowing that they might still vote for PAS no matter the help extended.

"Kelantan folk may still vote for PAS because they don't like concerts, tight clothing, and so on.

"The way to change their way of thinking is not by bashing them or lodging police reports. The best way to attract them and change their political outlook is by changing their surroundings, and their lifestyle."

It was previously reported that Zaid has returned to Umno, more than a decade after he was axed.

In doing so, Zaid said he hoped to broaden the mindset of the next generation to mend the nation, which he claimed "is not the Malaysia our founders had hoped for".
