Najib criticises Tun M for quitting parties when he doesn’t get his way

AFTER former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he left the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition, established last year, it is fallen PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak who took a jibe at the elderly statesman for his never-ending political party shifts.

Najib is known for his numerous attacks and jokes against Dr Mahathir, some of which became famous memes on Facebook in particular.

Writing on Facebook, he said:

Formed new UMNO, exited UMNO. Formed PPBM (Bersatu), exited PPBM. Formed Pejuang, exited Pejuang. Formed GTA, exited GTA.

“After that, he said Malays are not politically matured. If he (Dr Mahathir) can’t get something he will form a new party.”

Moreover, Dr Mahathir had said he left the GTA to focus on a non-political agenda, which however, is rigged in politics in the form of the ‘Malay Proclamation’.

Supporting Najib’s comment, some netizens on Facebook commented sarcastically that as long as Dr Mahathir’s son is not the prime minister, no one is good.

User Zulkifli Mohammad said:

“As long as his [Mahathir’s] son doesn’t become the prime minister, he will not find a way to help the Malay community, but rather focus on his own and his family’s interests. That’s why the Langkawi voters rejected him. This statement is very hurtful to the Malays, calling them lazy.

“It is the Malay community who made him Prime Minister for many years and enabled his children to live in ease and luxury, yet he still doesn’t realize this.”

Meanwhile, user Hajja Biah Calbi had a very harsh comment against Dr Mahathir.

“This is a punishment for him [referring to a certain person mentioned before]. Before the end of his life, he will witness the consequences of his actions; he has caused division among the Malays.”

However, a user said Najib was also wrong for posting such comments.

“This status [referring to a social media post] can also cause division among Malays, without realising it, Najib. Because of his own status, how many Malays have argued. Just reflect on it.” — May 13, 2023
