Don’t use Mercedes, Facebook: netizens pan PAS man for anti-Coldplay open letter

KUALA LUMPUR – Netizens have panned Kelantan PAS Youth chief Mohamad Kamal Mohamed over his open letter condemning Kelantanese influencer Khairul Aming for buying tickets to the upcoming Coldplay concert in Malaysia.
Kamal earned the brickbats after accusing Khairul of supporting a band that “outwardly promotes LGBT” rights.
However, Kamal’s attempt to chastise the event immediately backfired as netizens called him out for apparently having double standards.
Many pointed out that various concerts by international artists received the green light during PAS’ tenure as the government, such as Justin Bieber and Billie Eilish.
“Coldplay is forbidden during the Madani (administration). If PAS was ruling, it would be halal (permitted),” commented Hakim Hashim, a Facebook user.
Netizens also quipped that Kamal was not in a position to reprimand Khairul, as the former had uploaded his open letter on Facebook, a social media platform that openly supports LGBTQ+ rights.
They also took a jab at PAS executive council members for owning Mercedes Benz vehicles, another brand known to be in support of the LGBT.
“Facebook is a strong supporter of LGBT (rights), I suggest (you) deactivate your account and switch to postal services. If you use Facebook, it means you are also supporting the LGBT, God forbid,” commented Farhana Shafiq.
“Ustaz, don’t be ‘munafik’ (hypocritical), sell all the Mercedes cars bought (before this) and buy (Perodua) Viva,” Ash Shafie said.
Meanwhile, several others criticised the Kelantanese leader for focusing on the wrong issue, as the state is still suffering from unclean water supply and social problems.
“If (you) are the utmost Islamic, settle the issue for clean water in Kelantan first. You cannot even afford (to solve) the most basic thing in life,” said @iskandarzulzak on Twitter.
Some netizens sympathised with Khairul, as they said he helped create career opportunities for locals and improved the Kelantan’s economy, only to be nitpicked for his actions.
Meanwhile, netizens were also quick to point out an incident where Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir allegedly “liked” countless videos and images involving gay pornography sites on Twitter.
Earlier today, Kamal posted a public letter to Khairul, saying “It broke my heart to read your Twitter post (about you) working so hard to book the tickets.”
“I invite you to think about the consequences of the LGBT culture that will be brought in the Coldplay concert.
“Are you willing to be a contributor to the dissemination of an unhealthy culture, especially to the youth?” Kamal asked.
However, Coldplay proved to be well-liked with Malaysians, as tickets to the band’s concert were sold out in the span of a few hours yesterday and on Tuesday.
Many fans who failed to secure spots in the concert pointed a finger at the organisers for their poor management and for allowing ticket scalpers to obtain the tickets, who are now re-selling them at exorbitant prices.
Subsequently, a petition was made for Coldplay to perform here for another night, which garnered over 7,500 signatures as of yesterday evening. – The Vibes, May 18, 2023
