Shahidan eyes Selangor in upcoming state polls
Arau MP Shahidan Kassim today said he is ready to take part in the upcoming elections in six states and help Perikatan Nasional (PN) take over Pakatan Harapan-controlled states.
The former Umno leader told a live talk show this evening that he has no problem being fielded in any of the states but expressed his preference for contesting in Selangor.
“Any state is okay for me... (They might put me in) Selangor because I live in Selangor.
“I am here to help and strengthen them (PN) but if it would create any problems, I don’t want to. No problem.
“So, my principle is simple. If they need me, I am ready to help,” Shahidan (above) said, as quoted by Malay daily Sinar Harian.
Shahidan was speaking at a live talk show hosted by the newspaper company, titled ‘Shahidan: Otai Perlis masih berbisa’.
Apart from Selangor, five other states - Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and Kedah - are expected to hold their respective state elections soon.
Three of the states - Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang - are currently under Harapan administrations, while the rest are being held by PN.
Shahidan used to be a senior Umno leader but was dropped as a candidate in the 15th general election. He successfully defended his Arau parliamentary seat on a PN ticket but was sacked by Umno as a result.
Meanwhile, during the talk show, Shahidan also alleged that the federal government had not distributed parliamentary funding to PN MPs.
He reportedly said that it has made it difficult for the MPs to help their constituents and chided the government for allegedly being vindictive.
“If you want to be a government just to get back at the previous administration, you might as well not be a government.
“Harapan in its manifesto said they would give equal funding to all MPs but not only did this not happen, the funds were not even (distributed) evenly,” he said.
