KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — After his recent sacking by Umno, Khairy Jamaluddin said he is considering a return to politics by running in the upcoming Selangor state polls.

Speaking at the Concorde Club, a monthly forum on current topics initiated by veteran journalists, the former health minister did not deny speculation he was eyeing the menteri besar’s post.

“There are discussions with several parties and there are also discussions taking place on what that role would be. But if I do decide to sit out the state polls, then I would have more time to decide which political platform I choose as my next chapter in my political journey.

“If I want to participate in the state polls, I have to decide in the next few months which way I will go,” The Star reported him saying today.

He also said he had the requisite experience to handle a local government role as he was a three time incumbent in Rembau and was also the former minister of health and sports.

He, however, said that he was not keen to form a new political party.

“I do feel it’s a good opportunity. But then, I have to weigh whether I have the appetite to jump back. The market is a bit saturated and I see there might not be space for a new party in Malaysia. Though it’s an option, it’s unlikely,” he said.

After his sacking on January 27, Khairy said he would not appeal as the decision makers in Umno are the ones who expelled him in the first place.

Khairy said he had discussed the matter with former supreme council member Tan Sri Noh Omar and former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan who were also part of those purged from the party.
