Only PH, GPS partnership can form a stable govt, says Rafizi

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli says there have been unofficial ‘exchanges of communication here and there’ between PH and GPS on some form of cooperation.

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli is not expecting a single coalition to have a clear mandate to form the government after the general election.

However, he expects Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to win the lion’s share of seats in the peninsula and Sarawak, respectively.

He said this was why he has been “negotiating publicly” that any differences or past political baggage between PH and GPS must be put aside.

“The only configuration that can guarantee a stable (federal) government is between PH and GPS. And that configuration upholds the democratic outcome of this general election.

“In Sabah, with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), Barisan Nasional, Bersatu, Warisan and PH (in the fray), the results will be very fractured,” he said at a press conference.

The PKR election director said he was sure GPS was aware of this, especially since he had been making frequent statements on the issue.

He also confirmed that there were unofficial “exchanges of communication here and there” with the Sarawak coalition.

“But the indication that I get so far, across the board not just from GPS but other parties in Sabah and Sarawak, is that they would want to wait for the election results first.

“Nevertheless, there has not been an outright rejection,” he said.

Previously, Rafizi said PH could only work with GPS and GRS to form the next federal government should the need arise, as cooperation with BN, Perikatan Nasional or Pejuang was out of the question.

However, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said it was impossible to expect GPS to work with PH. He said voting for the Sarawakian coalition was equivalent to voting for Umno.
