Another act of derhaka by Muhyiddin?
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin

Did he deceive the nation by saying he had a letter from Istana Negara on polling night?
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 21, 2022: In his bid for the highest political office in the country, has Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin besmirched the royal institution and muddied it with his dirty politics?
Will this be another incident of Muhyiddin committing another act of derhaka (treason/disobedience), by creating false narratives in order to achieve his goal of being a prime minister for the second time?
On Saturday, after Malaysia concluded its 15th General Election, the newly re-elected Pagoh MP made a sweeping and rather surprising claim – that the Yang di Pertuan Agong Sultan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had sent a letter, instructing Muhyiddin to form the federal government.

However, his assertion runs contrary to procedure and Malaysia’s doctrine on the separation of powers – where at this juncture, it is the Dewan Rakyat Speaker’s office who will be carrying out the duties of a hung Parliament on behalf of, and to, advise the King accordingly.
In fact, the next day itself, on Sunday, Nov 20, Istana Negara Comptroller Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Samsuddin had issued a statement on Facebook regarding the instructions by His Majesty on the deadlock – and the statement had no mention of any letter to the PN head.

“Istana Negara has requested the assistance of the honourable Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun to request political party leaders and political coalition leaders with a large number of seats to inform Istana Negara on any agreements made to cooperate between political parties/political coalitions to form a new government post GE15.
“The Speaker will request political party leaders and political coalition leaders who have made an agreement to submit the name of a Dewan Rakyat member who has obtained the majority support of the House as the prime minister candidate to Istana Negara before 2pm on Monday, Nov 21, 2022,” said the statement.
Currently, His Majesty has granted an extension to the deadline to 2pm on Tuesday, Nov 22, 2022.

Regardless of the extension, this does not dismiss the fact that the royal household did not acknowledge Muhyiddin’s claims on Saturday night already alludes to a possible deception by the Bersatu chief as he tries to seize control of the reins of the nation.
This is not the first time that Muhyiddin had tried to make a mickey out of the royal institution when it comes to taking Perdana Putra.
Last year, Muhyiddin and his allies in PAS, particularly then de facto law minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had practically committed derhaka towards the current Agong by misleading Parliament.
Takiyuddin had claimed that the State of Emergency during the Movement Control Order, was retroactively revoked on July 21, 2021, instead of allowing it to end on August 1, 2021 without the assent of the King.

He was rebuked by Istana Negara a day later, in a statement issued by the Palace Comptroller.

Ahmad Fadil said that Sultan Abdullah had asserted that the application to revoke the emergency ordinances, backdated to July 21, was “hastily made without presenting it in Parliament”, and that “the contradictory and misleading statement in Parliament failed to respect the principle of the rule of law in the Rukun Negara”.
“This “disregarded His Majesty’s functions and powers as the head of state, as enshrined in the federal constitution”.
“To this, His Majesty expresses great disappointment over the statement made on July 26 that the government has revoked all emergency ordinances promulgated by His Majesty, although the revocation has not yet been given royal assent,” said the statement.
Seeing such skeletons in Muhyiddin and PAS’ closet, there are whispers in royal corridors of how wary the Council of Rulers are when it comes to working with PAS federal ministers – especially after seeing their behaviour when they seized Putrajaya during the infamous Sheraton Move.
“They (the royals) are not happy to work with PAS after what happened last year. They’re not happy. PAS claims to fight for the Malays but out of all the Malay political parties, they have antagonised the royal institution the most.
“Besides the emergency ordinance last year, they have also committed derhaka against the Sultan of Selangor when they contradicted him over the Bon Odori festival.
“Also, remember back in 2009? Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin went against the late Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak when he refused to accept the fact that the then Pakatan Rakyat state administration had been toppled.
“They blocked the Raja Muda’s (current Sultan Nazrin Shah) convoy in Kuala Kangsar,” said the source who requested anonymity.

Of course Mahiaddin committed derhaka as I posited in another post.
ReplyDeleteWhat is disappointing is the failure of the palace to rebuke Mahiaddin.
I suppose with PAS in his PN coalition, Mahiaddin is embolden to take on the palace knowing royalty seems afraid of PAS.
The Bon Odori episode is a clear defiance by PAS against the Selangor Sultan and yet the Sultan kept silent. This probably was a lesson the Agong learned and thus kept silent the latest act of derhaka by Mahiaddin.
