Telly Tubby wants to marry both BN and PN

Zuraida says PBM offered to join PN

PBM leader Zuraida Kamaruddin says her party is a multiracial one and led by a woman.

PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) president designate, Zuraida Kamaruddin, says she had suggested that the party join Perikatan Nasional (PN) as a means to strengthen the coalition with a multiracial party led by a woman.

She also confirmed to Utusan Malaysia that her party has yet to officially apply to join Barisan Nasional (BN).

“The current government is a BN and PN government but – I don’t know – PN is always quarreling with BN,” the daily quoted her as saying.

She said she had previously offered PBM to be a component member of PN. However, she did not disclose when the offer was made or whether PN leaders were receptive to the idea.

Yesterday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said several parties have expressed interest in joining the coalition, adding that PN was looking into their requests.

“We (PN) are very meticulous about this. We want to ensure these parties want to join PN because they want to give their support to us,” he said after launching PN’s Kelantan branch in Tanah Merah.

Zuraida, who is minister for plantation industries and commodities, was appointed to the Cabinet in August while she was with Bersatu. She left the party to join PBM on May 26.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu’s president, has insisted that Zuraida’s position in the Cabinet be taken by someone from Bersatu.
