PETALING JAYA: Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has warned of clashes with PKR in the Johor state elections if seat negotiations with the party fail.
Syed Saddiq said Muda had informed DAP and Amanah of its intention to avoid any seat clashes with PKR, adding that it was ready to continue negotiations with the Anwar Ibrahim-led party.
“If there are no developments and changes in decision from the PKR leadership on Muda-PKR seats, the Muda leadership will hold a special meeting to discuss the way forward this weekend.
“If any seat clashes between Muda and PKR cannot be avoided, Muda will leave it to Johoreans to decide,” he said in a statement.
Syed Saddiq, the former youth and sports minister, said Muda had been continuously working on avoiding any seat clashes with fellow opposition parties as its main goal was to bring change to Johor.
“Through official negotiations with DAP and Amanah, Muda has successfully avoided any seat clashes (with the two parties),” he said.
He also said a series of negotiations had been held with PKR, but claimed the party was set to announce its candidates for all 20 seats.
This, he claimed, meant that PKR was effectively ending negotiations with Muda.
Earlier this month, DAP and Amanah decided to let Muda contest in six seats – Puteri Wangsa, Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja, Machap and Bukit Permai.
The Machap and Bukit Permai seats were given by DAP, while Amanah made way for Muda in the other four constituencies.
Bersatu won Puteri Wangsa, Tenang, Bukit Kepong and Bukit Permai in GE14 before it quit Pakatan Harapan in 2020, while Barisan Nasional won the Machap and Parit Raja seats.
