Perak assemblyman Terence Naidu released from custody in drugs case

PETALING JAYA: Perak state assemblyman Terence Naidu has been released from police custody a day after he was detained for allegedly testing positive for illegal substances.
His lawyer, RSN Rayer, confirmed with Malaysiakini that he had been released. “Yes, he was detained. I was present for his remand proceeding today. The police asked for four days but I objected to the remand. The (magistrates’) court ruled for him to be freed,” he was quoted as saying.
Terence, who is with DAP, was re-elected assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar, near Teluk Intan, in the 2018 general election. He secured a majority of 14,520 votes over his Barisan Nasional rival.
FMT reported earlier today that a Perak assemblyman had been arrested after he allegedly tested positive for drug use following a raid at a nightclub in Perai, Penang, last night.
A police source said the two-term assemblyman was found with 35 others at the nightclub which is part of a KTV (karaoke parlour) in Megamall Perai.
It has been learned that the case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The offence, of using a listed dangerous drug, carries a penalty of a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, or both.
